An outstanding 2021 campaign ended in All-State honors for Redwood Valley’s Will Ahrens as he finished 18th out of 160 runners at the Class A State Cross Country Meet held Saturday, Nov. 6 at St. Olaf College in Northfield.

Ahrens was the Cards' top runner on the boys side all season and slowly got better and better as the season progressed, peaking at tournament time and finishing with a bang at the State Meet on Saturday.

He opened the season with third, fifth, 11th, fifth and fourth place finishes before winning the freshmen race at the Milaca Mega Meet where he topped all 315 other runners in the field.

Redwood Valley's Will Ahrens' cross country season was capped off with All-State honors. Here he is pictured running earlier this fall at the Milaca Mega Meet where he won the freshman race.

That sparked the rest of the season for Ahrens as he won the Redwood Invitational and the BOLD Invitational in successive races and was second at the Adrian Invitational to wrap up the regular season.

In the postseason, Ahrens finished first at the Big South Conference Meet (small school) and was second overall (all Big South teams). At the Section 3A Meet he earned his first trip to State with a third place finish in a time of 16:49 and at State he would finish in 17:03 to place 18th overall and earn All-State accolades for finishing in the top 25.
