Lundeen scores 5 touchdowns in rout of Wolverines

It was a dominating night for the Redwood Valley football team as they destroyed visiting Sibley East 40-14 Friday, Oct. 15 at Inglis Field.

Senior Drew Lundeen continued his masterful season by scoring five touchdowns in the first half alone as the Cardinals (4-2) steamrolled to a 40-0 lead by halftime.

Drew Lundeen scored six touchdowns in the Cards win over Sibley East.

Lundeen scored on runs of 9, 4, 6 and 6 yards and sprinkled in a 35-yard touchdown reception from Alex Lang in a half that won’t soon be replicated.  His four rushing TDs in a single game ties a school record.

He would finish with five receptions for 100 yards and a score and had seven carries for 40 yards and four touchdowns.

Evan Cooper would tack on a 4-yard touchdown run in the third quarter before Head Coach Matt Lundeen called off the dogs leading 40-0.

Evan Cooper makes a nice form tackle as the Cardinal defense shut the Wolverines down.

The Cardinals racked up 412 yards of total offense (most coming in the first half) and had 266 yards through the air. Sibley East meanwhile finished with just 107 yards of total offense (12 passing) and suffered five turnovers.

Lang had a nice night through the air, completing 10-of-15 for 254 yards and a score.

Cam Enright had four carries for 39 yards. Cooper added eight carries for eight yards and a score. Blake Stephens had four carries for 16 yards, Tyson Irlbeck was 2-of-7 passing for seven yards and had five carries for 20 yards and Mav Goblirsch had four carries for 20 yards.

Brandon Lang hauled in one catch for 34 yards. Carson Woodford had three catches for 75 yards, Carter Peterson had one catch for 15 yards, Nolan Menz had two catches for five yards and Austin Gunderson had one catch for seven yards.

Defensively the Cards were led by Lundeen with 10 tackles (three solo), a sack and a fumble recovery. Cooper had nine tackles (two solo) and a tackle-for-loss, Goblirsch added eight tackles and two tackles-for-loss and Peterson had seven tackles (two solo) and a batted pass.

Gunderson finished with six tackles, a forced fumble and an interception. Riley Dikken had five tackles and a tackle-for-loss. Lincoln Ourada and Austin Ourada both had three tackles, Woodford added two tackles and a pair of sacks and Enright added four tackles and a batted pass. Stephens and Logan Moore both recovered fumbles.

The Cardinals wrapped up the regular season Wednesday night at home against LCWM (after this Gazette was printed.) A win undoubtedly got them to 5-2 and a cupcake first round playoff game at home on Tuesday, Oct. 26 against either Sibley East or Windom Area.

The second round will be interesting however with a potential match-up with JCC looming. The Huskies fell 32-14 to unbeaten Pipestone Area (8-0) and wrapped up the regular season against a good St. Peter team Wednesday night. JCC held off Redwood Valley 21-18 earlier in the season in a turnover-laden game.
