Farm accident involving 15-year-old reported near Hector

On Sept. 14, 2020, at approximately 10:38 a.m., the Renville County Sheriff’s Department received a report of a farm accident that had occurred on the 49000 block of 740th Ave in Renville County. That location is approximately five miles south of Hector in Martinsburg Township.  

The preliminary investigation revealed that a 15-year-old male was 15 feet off the ground, working on a grain dryer when his legs became entangled in an auger. 

The juvenile male was trapped in the auger and needed to be extricated. The juvenile was eventually extricated from the grain dryer and was transported to Minneapolis Children’s by North Memorial Air Care with serious injuries. 

The name of the juvenile is currently being withheld.

Assisting on the scene were the Renville County Sheriff’s Department, Hector Fire Department, Hector Ambulance, Olivia Area Technical Rescue Team and North Memorial Air Care.

The Renville County Sheriff’s Department is continuing its investigation.
