Eight Redwood Valley High School DECA students competed at the State Career Development Conference in Minneapolis. Over three days, they competed alongside 3,100 high school students from across the state in seven events such as Retail Management, Marketing Management, Human Resources and Finance. Students must complete an exam in their area of competition and compete in a role play where they are given a scenario and must present their ideas and solutions to a judge. Students have 10 minutes to prepare their solution before they present. Redwood Valley’s small delegation networked and competed with students who have multiple business classes available to them and delegations of over 150 students at the state conference. At the opening session, Redwood Valley’s chapter was recognized for their efforts in recruiting members and their chapter President, Chance Pendelton-Sam, was invited on stage to receive our certificate. While Redwood Valley did not have any students make it to finals (just 12 from each event move on), Redwood Valley students are determined to come back next year.Submitted
