Hazel Eleanor (Fossum) Krause

Belview - Oct. 26, 1917 - Nov. 2, 2021

Hazel Eleanor (Fossum) Krause, age 104 of Belview, MN passed away Tuesday, November 2, 2021 at Heritage Pointe Senior Living in Marshall, MN, exactly 1 week after her big 104th birthday celebrations.

Hazel was the 1st born of 4 children to Gustave and Stena (Swanson) Fossum. She was born on the family farm in Kintire Township near Belview, MN on Friday, October 26, 1917. She was baptized on December 9, 1917 at Rock Dell Lutheran Church in Belview and confirmed on May 29, 1932 at First Evangelical Lutheran Church also in Belview.

When Hazel started country school around 1923 in District 28E she could only speak Norwegian but soon learned English. She went there through 8th grade.

While growing up on the farm, she vividly remembers helping her dad during the depression years with the field work and driving that "old Fordson tractor" and how she also "drove the horses." She helped her dad with farming, plowing and cultivating with the horses. Another job she had was to keep the corn cobs filled to fire the stove for baking, she often helped her mother with the bread and pie making.

She met Everette "Buck" Krause from Vesta in the mid 1930's whom she married at the age of 21 ("Buck" was 26) on September 7, 1939 in Belview, MN. To this union they were blessed with 4 children, Jerry, Kenneth "Kenny", Richard "Rick" and Faye.

They lived on a farm near Echo, MN with "Buck's" brother Wayne "Red" until 1947. They moved in March of 1947 to the farm they bought in Sheridan Township just southeast of Belview. They attended First Evangelical Lutheran Church, which later was changed to Grace Lutheran Church in Belview. They farmed until "Buck" retired in 1975. In 1979, they moved to Belview, MN. Besides being a devoted, hardworking farmers wife and mother, Hazel was a Sunday school teacher and the treasurer of the Ladies Aid for several years. They lived in Belview enjoying the many family holiday get togethers for the next several years until a bad fall in 2011 didn't allow her to be completely independent anymore. From there she was moved and lived in Bloomington, MN surrounded by and cared for by her family until 2021. Her final months were spent at Heritage Pointe Senior Living in Marshall, MN which allowed her to be very close to more family. She loved all of the arts, crafts and flower arrangements she got to do while she was there.

She loved playing cards, their garden, canning and listening to "Pa" ("Buck") play all of his instruments and sing to her. She loved spending time with her family and friends and always made sure to send everyone home with a bag full of corn, potatoes, other fruits, vegetables and a bag of candy! She enjoyed a good cup of coffee, cookies and "suckin' candy." She also enjoyed the technology of today with being able to take pictures, videos, Snapchat's and TikTok's and see them immediately from your phone. She'd always say "you don't want this old hen in there." She could make you laugh and smile always no matter what the situation, including hollerin' at "Pa" ("Buck").

She was married to "Buck" for 62 years before he passed away on March 3, 2002 at the age of 88.

Hazel is survived by her children: Jerry (Cheryle) Krause of Bloomington, MN, Richard Krause (Cathy) of Brentwood, CA and Faye (Krause) Angrimson of Taunton, MN; 7 grandchildren: Tim (Lisa) Krause of New Prague, MN, Missy (Al) Perkins of Bloomington, MN, Sheila Barry (Ron) of Bloomington, MN, Jeff (Jessica) Krause of Columbia Heights, MN, Jason (Kari) Krause of Credit River, MN, Alissa (Nelson) (Oliver) of Davie, FL and Becky (Nelson) Esping of Minneota, MN; 18 great grandchildren; 7 great great grandchildren and many other relatives and friends.

She is preceded in death by her husband, Everette "Buck", parents, Gustave and Stena, son, Kenneth "Kenny" and his wife (Margaret "Peggy") Krause, son-in-law, Dwight Angrimson and siblings, Archie Fossum, Sylvia (Fossum) Prahl and Frances "Lonnie" (Fossum).

Private family services were held on Friday, November 5, 2021 at Redwood Valley Funeral Home.

Interment was in the Grace Lutheran Cemetery (Belview Cemetery) in Belview, MN on Saturday, November 6, 2021 where she was laid to rest next to her husband, "Buck" and several generations of family. Stephens Funeral Service - Redwood Valley Funeral Home assisted the family with arrangements.
