The Renville County Sheriff’s Department recently upgraded its CodeRED emergency notification system to include CodeRED weather warnings in order to provide residents and businesses with automated severe weather alerts.
The opt-in service will automatically notify enrollees of tornado, flash flood and severe thunderstorm warnings just moments after an alert has been issued by the National Weather Service (NWS).
Renville County Sheriff Scott Hable encourages all Renville County citizens to enroll to receive free CodeRED weather warnings.
“The CodeRED system provides our county with numerous benefits; we use it to keep our residents informed by issuing general and emergency related messages. Now, CodeRED Weather Warning is an additional tool that we will use to help keep our citizens safe and to provide them with additional time to prepare during severe weather events,” Hable said.
The system’s advanced technology is designed to quickly notify residents in the direct path of projected dangerous weather as issued by the NWS.
“This is a valuable feature, as those citizens who receive an alert will be able to take immediate protective actions, day or night,” Hable said. “CodeRED Weather Warning will help keep our community informed when severe weather strikes. Therefore, it’s vital that all residents enroll to receive alerts or to update their contact information to ensure it is up-to-date. I urge you to enroll today, and please see to it that your friends, family and neighbors are enrolled, too.”
Renville County residents who are a current CodeRED subscriber or message recipient must re-enroll in order to also receive the weather warnings.
The enrollment/re-enrollment process will allow the public to choose which weather events they would like to be notified about.
All residents living in Renville County are encouraged to enroll via one of the following methods:
• Visit www.renvillecountymn.com and click on the “CodeRED community notification” tab in the lower right of the Web site to enroll using one’s home and cell phone numbers, text and e-mail addresses.
• Text the word “RENVILLE” to 99411 from smartphones. A sign-up link will immediately be sent.
• Call the Renville County Sheriff’s Department at (320) 523-1161 and someone will assist callers in getting enrolled.
No one should assume they are already included in the emergency contact database.
The public is encouraged to enroll.
