Each year the area faith community gathers together to celebrate life and demonstrate its value for it through a prayer service for life and healing.
According to Chris Schmitz, Redwood Falls Youth for Christ director and president of the Redwood Falls Ministerial Association, the service is held to address the issue of abortion from a faith perspective and to honor life at all stages.
No, said Schmitz, this event is not about condemnation or shaming.
“We know there are people in our community who have experienced the pain and trauma of abortion,” said Schmitz, adding the service is meant for them as a way to help them heal.
It is also intended to bring people together as Christians to pray for those impacted by this issue.
Actions have a spiritual component, said Schmitz, and the prayer service for faith and healing is an opportunity for people to come and help others understand what God’s design is when it comes to life.
The service is being held Jan. 27 at St. Catherine’s Catholic Church in Redwood Falls starting at 4 p.m.
In addition to helping people heal and to pray, the event provides a time to support those who are helping with that healing process as well.
The Choices Pregnancy Center in Redwood Falls will be highlighted during the service, with those in attendance having the opportunity to hear more about what it offers and how people can help. An offering will be taken during the service to help the Choices Pregnancy Center continue to fulfill its mission in the area.
Following the service, a potluck meal is being held. Everyone is encouraged to bring a dish to share, with St. Catherine’s providing the utensils and drinks.
Everyone is invited and encouraged to attend the prayer service for life and healing Jan. 27.
