The Green Route in Redwood Falls is growing again to better accommodate its riders. Community Transit of United Community Action Partnership (UCAP) launched the route in July 2017. Few people believed fixed route service could succeed in a city the size of Redwood Falls, but by January 2018 UCAP made the first adjustments to the route schedule in order to better support its success.

As of Dec. 1, 2018, it began running the Green Route with two added stops that will meet even more of the transit needs.

“When we start a new service, it’s always a work in progress,” said Nick Leske, Community Transit operations administrator.

Transit officials have been watching the Green Route for the past year and a half, and have received a handful of suggestions from riders and staff as to how it might be improved.

As a result, route stops have been added at River Ridge Apartments and Parkside Townhomes.

“The addition of these stops offers more rider convenience without significantly changing the route,” Leske said.

The Green Route now stops at River Ridge Apartments at five minutes past the hour and Parkside Townhomes at 45 minutes past. Other stop times have been adjusted to accommodate the additional stops, but the bus still stops at every location once an hour.

“We’re so grateful for the support of River Ridge, Parkside Townhomes and all of our other stop locations,” said Leske. “We need to have safe places for people to get on the bus, and these locations have given us that. That simple thing allows many people in our community the freedom to where they want to go.”

The Green Route runs Monday through Friday from 8 a.m. to noon and 1-5 p.m.

Leske said that no other changes are immediately planned for the route, but UCAP is currently looking at some other suggestions it has received.

“Some changes will take more leg work, but we’re not willing to etch it in stone just yet,” said Leske. “The ultimate goal is to serve Redwood Falls to the best of our ability.”

Green Route maps and schedules are available at or the Redwood Falls UCAP office at the corner of Second and Washington streets.
