The eighth annual Thanksgiving Day Turkey Trot 5K is being held this coming Thursday (Nov. 22).

The walk/run has been held for the past several years as a way to celebrate fitness, have a little fun and to give thanks – taking the focus away from making the day just about eating large volumes of food.

The event begins at Functional Fitness in Redwood Falls Thursday morning, with the walk starting at 8:30 a.m. and the run beginning at 9 a.m.

Race day registration opens at 8 a.m.

The cost to participate is $20 for those who register this Thursday.

Early registrations are also being accepted at Functional Fitness. Those who register in advance will pay $15 to take part. The first 30 people to register get a roasted turkey hat.

Everyone who takes part in the race is also asked to bring three food items for the local food shelf.

The Thanksgiving Day Turkey Trot is sponsored by Functional Fitness, Thrivent Financial and Youth for Christ.

Proceeds from the race are used to enhance the opportunities for the Youth for Christ program and the food shelf in the community.

Everyone is encouraged to participate in the Thanksgiving Day Turkey Trot 5K this week.
