Redwood Valley standout honored for his efforts on the gridiron this fall

Redwood Valley standout Cole Woodford was recognized for his outstanding efforts on the field this season by being nominated as a Mr. Football Finalist for the State of Minnesota.

Woodford was a two-way starter (WR/DB) for the Cardinals, helping lead them to a 10-1 record and a State Tournament berth. The Minnesota Football Coaches Association (MFCA) recently nominated The Elite Eleven finalists for the award which is also sponsored by the Minnesota Vikings.

The Award was first presented in 2004 to Nick Mertens of East Grand Forks. Last year’s award went to Antonio Montero of Eden Prairie. Nominees must be a graduating senior, must not have any MSHSL violations and each player must be nominated by their Sub-District/MFCA representative after being selected by the Coaches in each Sub-District.

The Mr. Football Banquet will be held on Sunday, Dec. 16 at 9 a.m. at the Doubletree by Hilton Minneapolis Park Place Hotel in Minneapolis.

Along with Woodford, the other finalists include: Bryce Bernhart of Lakeville North, Matt Cavanaugh of Edina, Alex Folz of Spring Grove, Nick McCabe of Caledonia, Cade Plath of Chanhassen, Davis Roddy of Breck, Luke Ryan of BOLD, Treyton Welch of Buffalo, Brandon Westberg of Cambridge and Jason Williamson of Owatonna.
