Why are you running for county sheriff?
I’m seeking re-election as the Redwood County Sheriff because the position has been rewarding in terms of meeting and helping people, facing challenges, and the fact that no two days at work are ever the same.
From your perspective, what is the role of county sheriff?
The county sheriff has numerous roles; most are covered by state statutes. Some of the highlighted duties are providing a secure and safe jail facility, maintaining the 911 dispatch center, patrolling and responding to calls for service, providing court security, handling civil process and warrants, issuing permits to purchase and carry firearms and promoting boat and water safety. Also, I believe it’s an important role to be available to the public and listen to concerns or comments.
Why should the people of Redwood County vote for you?
I would hope the people of Redwood County would vote for me because of my work history /experience and because they trust me to represent them as sheriff.
I have worked at the Redwood County Sheriff’s Office for 31 years. During that time, I have worked as a deputy, as chief deputy, and in my current position as sheriff since 2009. Prior to working at the sheriff’s office, I worked for the Redwood Falls Police Department, the Minneota Police Department and the Tracy Police Department. I was a member of the Redwood Falls Fire Department for 22 years. I have been married to my wife, Sandy, for 32 years. We have three grown children: Matt, Eric and Lauren.
