Cardinal boys roll to team title at Redwood Valley Invitational

A record breaking performance from senior Tommy Amberg helped lead the Redwood Valley boys track team to the RV Invitational team title Tuesday afternoon at the Inglis Track & Field Complex.

Amberg jumped a school record 44’ in the triple jump to win the event easily and break the previous school record set by Erik Hanson back in 1986. He also captured the 400 meter dash (55.57) and was second in the long jump (20’4”).

The Cardinal boys finished with 203 team points to capture the seven-team event in easy fashion over Canby-Minneota (147.5) and JCC (134).

Senior Logan Josephson continued his strong spring, winning the 100 meter dash (11.46), the 200 meter dash (22.84), the long jump (20’7”) and finishing second in the 300 hurdles (42.30).

Kaleb Haase had a strong throw in winning the discus (135’8”) and finished fourth in the shot put (40’ 9 3/4”). Jordan Mertens had a season best jump of 5’10” in winning the high jump and was sixth in both the 110 hurdles (20.20) and triple jump (39’) Jayson Peyerl captured the 3,200 meter run (11:03.17) and was third in the 1,600 (5:00.01).

Mason Clark finished second in the 1,600 (4:59.05) and was second as part of the 4x800 team of Gavin Dow, Maverick Goblirsch and Deon Estebo (9:00.65). Jed Hansen recorded a season best 10’6” in winning the pole vault and was fifth in the 110 hurdles (19.98). Estebo added a second plaxe finish in the 800 (2:11.90) and the 4x200 relay team of Bennet Vollbehr, Aeneas Pacheco, Jake Evans and Kyle Huherkoch were third (1:42.16).

Huhnerkoch added a pair of third place finishes in the high jump (5’4”) and triple jump (40’ 5 1/2”). Luke Grannes (9’) and Goblirsch (9’) were third and fourth in the pole vault respectively, Eric Bommersbach added a third in the discus (128’ 3 1/2”) and was seventh in the shot (36’ 3 3/4”). Dow was sixth in the 3,200 (11:50.36).

The Redwood Valley girls meanwhile finished in second place behind champion Canby-Minneota (191-157.5).

It was a nice outing for freshman Hannah Schjenken who captured the long jump (16’ 1 /2”), and the 200 meter dash (27.22) and was second in the high jump (4’8”) and the 400 (1:03.52).

The 4x100 relay team of Caitlyn Johnson, Ella Fuhr, Alaina Goblirsch and Sidney Beran (55.28) earned a first place finish, while the 4x800 team of Kaitlyn Loftus, Jahlyn Bill, Jayne Russell and Sophia Uhlenkamp placed fifth (11:45.98).

Catherine Buffie won the 3,200 meter run (12:33.70) and was fifth in the 1,600 (5:47.37). Alexa Steffl was first in the 100 hurdles (17.63), second in the 300 hurdles (52.26) and second in the long jump (16’).

The 4x400 relay team of Fuhr, Aubree Hicks, Bill and Sydney Sommers was third (4:32.73) and Hicks added a third in the 1,600 (5:47.37) and a fourth in the 800 (2:44.02). Josi Kodet was third in the triple jump (30’8”), fourth in the long jump (14’4”) and fifth in the pole vault (6’6”).

Isabel Hillestad added a fourth in the triple jump (30’7”) and was sixth in the long jump (14’2”). Sommers added a fifth in the 100 meter dash (14.03) and was sixth in the pole vault (29’ 11 1/3”). Jasmine Barnes finished fifth in the 3,200 (14:00.10), Bri Panitzke added a fifth in the triple jump (30’ 1 1/2”) and a sixth in the pole vault (6’), Jaidyn Probst was sixth in the discus (86’6”) and Beran placed sixth in the 100 (14.20).
