National Junior Olympic 3 position air rifle (3PAR) championship invitations were earned by members of the Redwood/Renville 4-H Shooting Sports program.
The state 3PAR Junior Olympic championships are shoulder-to-shoulder matches.
Jared Zollner, team captain, placed first in the event earning an individual invitation. The team of Zollner, Catherine Turbes, Noah U’Ren, Kailey Booth and George Turbes garnered two golds, two silvers and one bronze award.
The team's combined score was good enough to qualify for the national 3PAR championships. The state 3PAR Junior Olympic championship was held at St. Thomas Academy Feb. 24.
The national 3PAR championship is a combined event with the national 3PAR Junior Olympic championship and the CMP national championship, held annually during the summer months.
The national Junior Olympic program provides competitions year-round for shooters to partake in, and the program runs matches throughout the country, making it accessible for all interested juniors.
Junior shooters are able to participate in state competitions sanctioned by USA Shooting, allowing them the chance to receive an invitation to shoot at the national Junior Olympic championships hosted by USA Shooting in Colorado Springs, Colo.
Junior Olympic goals are to allow the skilled junior athletes to obtain national competitive experience for future development. The program also serves as an opportunity to appoint the top finishers to the national junior team.
