Redwood Valley earned another signature win by topping NRHEG 63-61 Saturday afternoon

Handing NRHEG just its second loss of the season, the Redwood Valley boys basketball team continued its strong push towards the postseason with a 63-61 win over the Panthers Saturday afternoon in Redwood Falls.

The Panthers (20-2) had entered the game on a 14-game win streak but watched as the Cardinals (12-11) outplayed them on the way to their third straight victory.

It was another signature win for Head Coach Aaron Lindahl’s crew who also handed Springfield (22-1) its lone loss of the season.

The Cards are looking at the three seed in the Section 3AA-North as the Section 3AA race appears to be wide open. In the win over the Panthers the Cards took a 31-26 lead into the break and held on late for the victory.

Mitch Irlbeck finished with 18 points and five rebounds and Cole Woodford had 14 points and five rebounds. Payton Nelson knocked down a trio of three’s to finish with nine points and two boards and Deo Charles had seven points. Logan Josephson had six points and four rebounds, Kyle Huhnerkoch had five points and two boards and Bronson Smith had four points, three rebounds and two assists.

The Cards will play Pipestone Area on Friday night in Marshall in a game originally scheduled for Monday night.
