Bommersbach earns 100th career win versus Canby

The Redwood-River Valley wrestlers continued their strong push towards the postseason by taking two of three dual meets Friday night at their own home quadrangular.

It was a memorable night for senior Eric Bommersbach who picked up his 100th career win with a 7-1 win over Josh Steffen of Canby.

The Badgers rolled to a 63-12 win over Quad County, held off New Ulm Area 42-33 and wrestled a good Canby team tough before ultimately falling 39-26.

In the win over New Ulm Area, the Badgers trailed 33-18 with four matches to go but got forfeit wins from Mason Rummel (182) and Chad Maddock (Hwt.) and falls from Adam Bommersbach (195) and Kaleb Haase (220) to seal the victory. Maverick Goblirsch (126) and Tyle Rummel (160) both won by fall, Owen Bertram earned a 7-0 decision at 113 and Omar Arredondo was a 7-3 winner at 132.

The Badgers dropped a tight match with Canby 39-26 but the results could’ve been different had the Badgers won a trio of close matches. Goblirsch lost a tough 3-1 decision in the waning moments at 126, Andy Fischer was leading late in his match at 160 before falling 7-5 and Chad Maddock nearly recorded a fall at Heavyweight before being pinned himself. Tayte Harazin (145) needed just 56 seconds to win by fall at 145 and Devin Johnson dominated his way to a third period fall at 152. Bertram (113) was a winner by technical fall, Arredondo earned a 6-1 win over Payton Viessman at 132, Eric Bommersbach won 7-1 at 170 and Haase was an 8-1 winner at 220.

The Badgers also cruised to an easy 63-12 win over Quad County. Forfeit wins went to Bertram (113), Eric Bommersbach (160), Tyler Rummel (170) and Mason Rummel (182). Goblirsch (126), , Matthew Zeug (138), Johnson (152) and Adam Bommersbach (195) won by fall. Arredondo (132) was a 7-0 winner at 132, Harazin earned a 4-1 win at 145 and Haase was a 7-1 winner at 220.
