Redwood-River Valley 9th-grade-and-under team performs well at State Meet

The Redwood-River Valley ninth-grade-and-under wrestlers had a strong sixth place performance at the state meet held Saturday in Hastings.
Making their first ever trip to state, the Badgers defeated Apple Valley 48-19 in their opener as Owen Bertram (106), Jaxon Lang (120), Kadin Johnson (132), Braydin Reynolds (138) and Chad Maddock (Hwt) all recorded falls.
Matthew Zeug earned a 2-0 decision at 126, Andy Fischer claimed a 5-4 decision at 152 and Adam Bommersbach won a 3-0 bout at 170.
The Badgers then lost a tough 40-28 match with Foley in their quarterfinal match.
Lang picked up a 14-2 major decision win at 120, Mason Rummel won by fall at 160, Bommersbach added a fall at 170, Kaleb Haase won by fall at 189 and Maddock picked up a pin at heavyweight as the Badgers made things interesting by winning the final four matches by fall.
Carter Brandt (94) lost a tough 4-2 decision, Damico Arredondo (100) fell 4-0, Bertram (106) dropped a 2-0 decision in overtime and Maverick Goblirsch fell 7-0 at 113 in four matches that could’ve swayed the outcome.
The Badgers would answer back with an impressive 51-24 win over Detroit Lakes.
Bertram (106), Goblirsch (113), Lang (120), Zeug (126) and Johnson (132) all recorded falls to give the Badgers a comfortable 30-12 lead.
Fischer won by forfeit at 152, Bommersbach recorded a first period fall at 170, Haase earned a 3-0 decision at 189 and Maddock won by fall at Heavyweight.
In the fifth place match, the Badgers lost 45-25 to New Prague to finish sixth.
Haase (189) and Maddock (Hwt) both earned first period falls,  Bommersbach (170) won by forfeit, Fischer earned a 10-0 major decision at 152 and Goblirsch won his match 10-3 at 113.
