During its Dec. 20 meeting, the Redwood Falls city council approved a new two-year agreement with the Redwood Falls Public Employees Association (RFPEA). The existing contract covers full-time employees who work in the streets, water and liquor departments in the city, said Keith Muetzel, city administrator.
“This is the last of our three bargaining unit contracts to be approved,” Muetzel told the council.
Muetzel said two years ago the city had a conversation regarding the RFPEA employees and determined that the pay those employees were receiving was below the market, which was confirmed as the city did a comparative study of other similar cities in the region.
As a result the agreement includes a 40 cents per hour adjustment for both 2017 and 2018 for liquor store department employees and a 50 cents per hour increase in both 2017 and 2018 for streets department employees. A reclassification of water department staff will result in a $1.22 per hour increase for those on the top step of the salary schedule.
All of the employees also receive a 3 percent cost of living allowance increase in both 2017 and 2018, and the employees will have the option to participate in the health care savings plan with no employer contribution.
In other action during its meeting the city council:
• Approved a conditional use request from Chris Schablin to operate a used car and RV dealership at 1317 East Bridge Street.
• Approved a variance request from Ron Wertish to reduce the front yard setback from 25 feet to 19 feet for a building at 611 South Halvorson. The existing commercial building is being converted into a residence.
• Approved on sale 3.2 malt liquor licenses to Four Seas Redwood, Inc. and Redwood Speedway, LLC.
