Jol Alejandro Gomez - Avila, 21, of Buffalo Lake, passed away Monday, February 22, 2016, at the Renville County Hospital in Olivia.

Mass of Christian Burial was held Friday, February 26, 2016, at 11 a.m. at St. John’s Catholic Church in Hector. Interment followed in the Buffalo Lake City Cemetery.

Joél Alejandro Gomez - Avila, 21, of Buffalo Lake, passed away Monday, February 22, 2016, at the Renville County Hospital in Olivia.

Mass of Christian Burial was held Friday, February 26, 2016, at 11 a.m. at St. John’s Catholic Church in Hector, with Father Mark Mallak and Father Anthony Stubeda officiating. Music was provided by Cyndi Washburn as accompanist, Don Clasemann, soloist, and the Jubilate Choir. Interment followed in the Buffalo Lake City Cemetery.

Joel Alejandro Gomez - Avila was born June 30, 1994, in Matamoros, Tamaulipas, Mexico, the son of Enrique and Maria Gomez. He was baptized on October 9, 1994, at Parraquia De San Antonio De Padua 1 in Matamoros. Joel moved with his family to Buffalo Lake. He grew up in Buffalo Lake and received his education at the Buffalo Lake Hector Schools and BOLD. He then moved to Worthington to live with his older brother, Enrique Gomez, where he attended ALC School. He then returned to Buffalo Lake and was employed with Triple J Farms.

Joel loved football. He played for the Buffalo Ridge Wildcats in the Southern Plains Football League, along with his brothers, Enrique and Josue.

Joel liked to joke around. He could be sarcastic and stubborn at times, but he was fun to be with. He enjoyed music, and Chinese food was his favorite. Joel loved his family.

Joel will be sadly missed by his parents, Enrique and Maria Gomez of Buffalo Lake; girlfriend, Korissa Bailly of Buffalo Lake, the mother of his upcoming child, Jovanna Alejandra Gomez - Avila; daughter, Adyson Larson Gomez, and her mother, Kallie Larson, of Hector; brothers, Enrique Gomez of Sioux Falls, S.D., Josue Gomez of Buffalo Lake, and Emmanuel Gomez of Buffalo Lake; paternal grandmother, Maria Gonzalez Sanchez of Matamoros, Tamualipas, Mexico; other relatives, and friends.

Joel was preceded in death by his maternal grandparents, Francisco Javier Avila and Aurora Castillo, and paternal grandpa Enrique Gomez Rodriguez.
