Dewey Orville Tetrick, 93, of Canby died February 16, 2023. He was born in 1929 in Redwood Falls, the son of Wilbur Orville and Emma (Zimmerli) Tetrick. He attended a one room country grade school and graduated from Redwood Falls High School where he participated in football and wrestling. He was also active in 4-H raising and showing top Hereford, taking one to the St. Paul Jr. Livestock show. That same Hereford won the Jr. Division at the Chicago, Ill. International Show. His next year’s Hereford repeated at both shows. Dewey’s lifelong career centered around agriculture and livestock. He was also an avid outdoorsman, he enjoyed hunting, fishing and birding. In 1980 he became owner and operator of the Porter Elevator in Porter and retired in 2010.
Dewey married Betsy Jane Burmeister in 1949 in Redwood Falls. They lived in Oakes, N.D., Redwood Falls, Walnut Grove and Canby. Married for 73 years, they have five children: Jeff (Chris) Tetrick, Scott (Maryann) Tetrick, Terry Tetrick Lantz, Jill Tetrick, and Bruce Tetrick with Avis Hasert. Together they gave Dewey and Betsy 13 grandchildren and 19 great-grandchildren.
Dewey is preceded in death by his parents and siblings: Lucille Haas, Russell, Kenneth, Roger, Merlie McDougal, Charles and grandson, Tyler Tetrick, beloved son of Jeff and Chris.
