The Redwood Valley track athletes were in action Thursday afternoon, April 21 at the Windom Invitational. The Cardinal girls picked up a win in the 4x800 relay with the team of Ellie Nelson, Annie Lunde, Madi Munsell and Catherine Buffie (11:03.32).
Redwood Valley split its singles matches but would drop all three doubles matches in a 5-2 loss to St. James Area Thursday, April 21.
A seven-run fifth inning proved to be the difference as the Redwood Valley baseball team rallied to top host Pipestone Area 14-8, Saturday, April 16 in a Big South Conference battle. The Cardinals - a perfect 3-0 to start the season - trailed 6-4 through four innings but erupted for seven runs in the deciding fifth inning to take control.
The Redwood Valley girls golf team opened up the regular season with a second place finish at the recent Marshall Invitational held at the Marshall Golf Club. Despite less than ideal conditions the Cardinal girls finished just six shots out of first place as they carded a 361 team total to fall just behind LQPV (355) in the 10-team event.
Minnesota’s popular warm weather, stream trout season opened up Saturday, April 16, with quality fishing opportunities in every region of the state. Brook trout and splake fishing also opened up on Lake Superior and its tributary streams.
The River Valley Wildcats (A co-op of Sleepy Eye, Sleepy Eye St. Marys, Springfield and Cedar Mountain) have been enjoying early success at their first two indoor meets this season.
The Wabasso girls softball team looked impressive with three straight easy wins Saturday, April 10 at their home quadrangular. The Rabbits (3-1) rolled to a 14-1 win over Red Rock Central as Avery Carlson picked up the victory on the hill allowing just two hits and striking out six.
It's been a less than ideal start to the season for the spring sports teams but the Redwood Valley golfers were able to play their first meet Monday, April 11 at the Marshall Golf Club. The Cardinals finished ninth out of 15 teams with a 394 total team score.
Cedar Mountain senior Caden Kleinschmidt recently signed a letter of intent to play football for Gustavus Adolphus College next fall. The Cougar standout was a big part of Cedar Mountain's cinderella run to the Section title game in 2021 and was selected to the Minnesota All State Football team (9-man) as a wide receiver.
The Redwood Valley tennis team improved to 2-0 on the young season with a 6-1 win over MACCRAY Thursday, April 7 in non-conference action. The Cardinals again dominated in singles competition as all four players won in straight sets.
