Wabasso's Kelsey Frank reached a career milestone with her 1,000th career set assist in the Rabbits 3-2 loss to Sleepy Eye St. Mary's in a Tomahawk Conference girls volleyball match-up.
The Redwood Valley boys and girls cross country teams earned a pair of runner-up finishes at the recent Luverne Invitational. The Cardinal girls finished 11 points behind champion Luverne (38-49) in the nine-team event but had two of the top three finishers.
In their first real test of the season the Cedar Mountain Cougars passed with flying colors as they topped host Edgerton 20-8 Friday night in nine-man action. A pair of second quarter touchdowns would give the Cougars (3-0) some cushion as Cooper Freitag hit Lane Guggisberg on a 20-yard strike and Freitag would then connect with the elusive Brandon Pendleton on a 69yard touchdown that made it 14-0 at the half.
With wins in two of the three doubles matches the Redwood Valley girls tennis team held off Worthington 4-3 in a recent Big South Conference road dual. The Cardinals would split the four singles matches as Brooke Zollner picked up a straight set 6-1, 6-1 win at first singles and McKenna Flinn rolled to a 6-1, 6-0 win at fourth singles.
Scoring 24 second half points the visiting Norwood-Young America Raiders topped Redwood Valley 30-22 Friday night in a non-conference tilt held at Inglis Field. For the second straight week the Cardinals (0-2) had a chance to win but ultimately made too many mistakes to come away with their first victory of the season.
In a competitive match-up the host JCC Huskies would outlast Redwood Valley 3-1 in a Big South Conference girls volleyball match-up. The Cards spilt the first two sets, dropping the first set 25-21 but taking the second 25-20.
It was another outstanding performance for the Cedar Mountain Cougar volleyball team as they rolled to a 3-0 straight set win over RRC in non-conference action. The Cougars won 25-13, 25-16, 25-19 as they continue to play well in the early season.
Taking two of the three doubles matches the Redwood Valley girls tennis team held off New Ulm 4-3 in a recent match-up held in New Ulm. Mila Jenniges and Anneliese Hammer picked up a 6-2, 6-2 win at first doubles and the second doubles unit of Julian Brown and Julia Lang earned a 6-4, 6-3 straight set win.
Deer hunting licenses can be purchased starting today and the 2022 Minnesota hunting regulations are now available on the DNR website. Print copies of the regulations will be available in early August wherever licenses are sold.
