The Redwood Valley gymnastics team earned a second place finish Saturday at the St. James Area Snowflake Invitational.
The Redwood Valley girls basketball team opened up the regular season with a 71-53 loss to visiting Sleepy Eye in a non-conference battle. The Cardinals were led by junior Kenzie Lunden who knocked down four three’s on the way to a team-high 14 points, eight rebounds and two steals.
Outscoring Fulda/HLO 4119 in the first half the Wabasso girls basketball team rolled to a 70-38 win over the Raiders Friday in a non-conference matchup. The Rabbits (2-1) got a big game from Kelsey Frank who went 11-of-20 from the floor on the way to a game-high 29 points, six rebounds, three assists and two steals.
The Redwood Valley hockey team fell to 0-3 on the young season with a pair of recent Big South Conference losses to New Ulm and Marshall. The Cardinals host New Ulm and watched as the Eagles scored nine goals in the first two periods to roll to a 10-1 victory.
The Wabasso wrestlers have been busy, taking part in a pair of recent quadrangulars. The Rabbits defeated Minneapolis North 62-12 and also topped LeSueur-Henderson 39-31.
Despite heavy graduation losses from a season ago the new look Redwood Valley boys basketball team is off to an impressive 2-0 start with season opening wins over Montevideo and Minnewaska Area. A year ago, veteran Head Coach Aaron Lindahl’s Cards put together a strong campaign, going 22-8 overall and 9-3 in Big South Conference play.
A furious second half rally by the Cedar Mountain Cougars helped them top Mayer Lutheran 6665 in non-conference boys basketball action. The Cougars trailed 3927 at the half but would flip the script in the second half as they outscored Mayer Lutheran 39-26 in the final 18 minutes to win by a single point.

Redwood Valley senior Emma Beavers recently wrapped up a nice career competing at the Section 3A Swim Meet held November 10 and 13 in Hutchinson. Beavers - who competed for the Marshall Tigers as part of a pairing agreement with Redwood Valley - wrapped up her six-year career at the meet setting several season bests in the process.
