Led by another strong outing from senior standout Mila Jenniges the Redwood Valley girls golf team rolled to a 21 stroke victory Monday at the Big South Conference Meet held in Pipestone.The Cardinals fired a 383 to easily outdistance second place Marshall (404) in the six-team event.Jenniges earned medalist honors with her round of 77 (39-38).

The Redwood Valley boys and girls track teams had a strong performance at the prestigious Howard Wood Relays held over the weekend in Sioux Falls.The Cardinal boys 4x800 relay team of Mason Anderson, Will Ahrens, Kilen Cilek and Landyn Nordby finished in third place (8:09), just two seconds behind the school record in the event.Ahrens also cracked the top five in the 1,600 meter run, finishing fourth with his time of 4:20.03.The 4x400 relay team of Lucas Fuhr, Aidan Salmon, Anderson and Tucker Amberg would finish 10th (54.57).The 4x100 relay team of Tevin Sivixay, Duran Kramer, Blake Stephens and Fuhr was 12th (45.43), Stephens placed 27th in the 100 meter hurdles (16.36) and Fuhr was 38th in the 100 meter dash (11.59).For the girls, junior Kendall Huhnerkoch had a strong meet as she finished fifth in the triple jump (36’10”).

The Redwood Valley girls golf team continued its domination of Big South opponents as it rolled to victory at the Big South Meet held Monday in Luverne.The Cardinal girls fired a 182 to win by 16 strokes over second place Marshall (198) in the six-team event.The senior duo of Mila Jenniges and Taylor Klabunde finished one-two overall with Jenniges earning medalist honors with her even par round of 36 and Klabunde adding a season best 42.Rylin Robish also played well, firing a 49 to place seventh.
The Redwood Valley boys tennis team rolled to an easy 7-0 win over LQPV/DB in recent dual meet action.In singles action, the Cards got 6-0, 6-0 wins from Zack Lundeen, Kanyon Hicks and Reese Regnier.Yzykiel Rendon was a 7-5, 6-3 winner at third singles.In doubles, Cole Johnson and Cayden Johnson-Mariner rolled to a 6-0, 6-1 win.Mason Davis and Laiten Goodthunder picked up a hard fought three-set win 6-1, 3-6, 10-8 and the third doubles unit of Collin Johnson and Zach Malecek won 6-1, 6-3.The Cardinals also picked up a 7-0 sweep of Pipestone Area.In doubles the Cards would pick up two forfeits while the first unit of Johnson and Mariner-Johnson would gut out a 7-5, 2-6, 10-7 win.In singles, Lundeen was victorious 6-1, 6-1; Hicks earned a 6-1, 6-2 win; Goodthunder was a 7-5, 6-1 winner and Regnier picked up a 7-5, 6-0 victory.Redwood Valley was also defeated 7-0 by St.

The Redwood Valley boys and girls track teams both faired well at their own home Invitational held recently at the Inglis Track & Field Complex.Despite windy, cool conditions the Cardinal girls held off MACCRAY/RCW 127-109 to earn the team title in the 10-team event.The Cardinal boys would finish second in a close race with rival Montevideo (118.5-114.5).The Cardinal girls led off the event with a first place finish from its 4x800 relay team of Lola Luze, Madi Munsell, Addie Thomes and Ellie Nelson (10:24).Senior McKenna Flinn broke her own school record in the pole vault (previously 9’2” set in last years Sub-Section Meet) by clearing 9’6” which would be good for second place.Kendall Huhnerkoch had another big meet as she was first in the triple jump (36’10”) and long jump (17’4”) and also helped the 4x100 team of Kenzie Lundeen, Caitlin Flinn and Cali Johnson finish in first with a time of 52.57.Luze captured the 3,200 meter run in an impressive time of 11:56.Thomes was second in the 1,600 (5:31), Johnson added a second in the 100 meter dash (13.2) and Michelle Smith was second in the 400 (1:03.66).Third place finishes went to Nelson in the 800 (2:38.65), Lundeen in the 200 (27.96), Munsell in the 3200 (12:46), Ava Dillon in the high jump (4’10”) and Johnson in the long jump (16’3”).Caitlin Flinn was fourth in the 100 (13.36) and the 4x800 relay team of Reese Prescott, Aubrielle Dixon, Chantikya Wabasha and Lily Dixon was fourth (11:43).The Cardinal boys were led by first place finishes from Will Ahrens in the 800 (1:59.58), Kilen Cilek in the 3,200 (9:56), Tucker Amberg in the long jump (20’3”), Easton Sandgren in the high jump (5’8”), Lucas Fuhr in the 100 (11.39) and the 4x800 relay team of Mason Anderson, Ahrens, Cilek and Landyn Nordby (8:24).Blake Stephens was second in the 100 meter hurdles (16.00), Nordby added a second in the 800 (2:06), Clayton Salmon was second in the 3,200 (10:37) and thirds went to Sandgren in the 300 hurdles (44.64) and the 4x200 relay team of Lane Cooper, Amberg, Duran Kramer and Zach Willemssen.The Cards then took part in the Sibley East Meet with the girls placing second to host Sibley East (156-124) and the boys finishing fourth out of eight teams.McKenna Flinn captured first in the pole vault as she reset her own school record in the pole vault by clearing a personal best 9’9”.Other first place finishes went to the sprint medley relay team of Huhnerkoch, Lundeen, Smith and Luze (4:35), Thomes in the 1,600 (5:32), the Co-Ed Relay team of Thomes, Cilek, Nelson and Nordby (9:19), the 4x400 team of Nelson, Johnson, Wabasha and Smith (4:19) and Johnson in the 200 (26.83).Second place finishes were earned by the MD Medley team of Kharma Mathiowetz, Caitlin Flinn, Nelson and Munsell (7:31), Caitlin Flinn in the 100 meter dash (13.32), Luze in the 3200 (12:14) and Johnson in the long jump (15’5 1/2”).Third place finishes went to the 4x100 team of Tristyn Wolner, Tila Gregg, Sonora Bauer and Lily Dixon (58.56), Munsell in the 1,600 (5:52) and Prescott in the 3,200 (13:07).On the boys side, first place finishes went to Cilek in the 3,200 (10:35), the 4x400 relay team of Fuhr, Amberg, Anderson and Salmon (53.76) and Amberg in the long jump (20’ 1/2”).The 4x100 relay team of Stephens, Tevin Sivixiay, Kramer and Fuhr was second (45.16) and thirds went to Salmon in the 1,600 (5:00) and 3,200 (10:49) and Isaiah Nelson in the pole vault (8’6”).A pair of Cardinal standouts also took part in the Hamline Elite Meet held Friday at Hamline University.Huhnerkoch had an outstanding night, winning the triple jump with a leap of 36’9 1/2” and finishing fifth in the long jump (16’6”).Ahrens raced in the 1,600 meter run and would record a season best time of 4:22.85 to place eighth.

The Redwood Valley baseball team picked up its first win of the season Monday with a 9-4 win over St.
Scoring nine runs in the first two innings the Wabasso girls softball team rolled to a 15-0, four-inning win over MVL in recent Tomahawk Conference action.The Rabbits allowed just one hit with Avery Carlson striking out four in two innings and Jenniges allowing just one hit and striking out one in two innings of relief.Carlson was also 2-for-2 with a double, a pair of walks, three RBIs and three runs scored.Rohlik was 1-for-2 with a pair of RBIs and three runs scored, Johnson, Annabelle Struntz and Jenniges all had hits.The Rabbits also recently held off SESM in another conference battle.The score was tied at three after four innings of play but the Rabbits would score five in the third and added an insurance run in the bottom of the sixth.The Rabbits would win despite six errors (the Knights would have five errors).Carlson went all seven innings, allowing just two earned runs on seven hits, striking out nine and walking just one.She also went 3-for-3 at the plate with a double and three RBIs.Lyla Kittelson went 1-for-2 with a big two-run homerun and Rohlik was 1-for-3.The Rabbits also swept a doubleheader with Sleepy Eye winning by scores of 2-0 and 4-0.In a 2-0 win, Carlson allowed just four hits, striking out eight and walking three in a shutout victory.Rohlik was 3-for-3 with two RBIs.The Rabbits also won 4-0 on a five-hit shutout from Carlson that included five strikeouts.Struntz was 1-for-3 with a double and two RBIs, Rohlik, Carlson and Kittelson all had hits.
The Windom Eagles held off the Redwood Valley boys 177-179 Friday afternoon in Big South Conference golf action held at the Redwood Falls Golf Club.The Cardinal boys played better than their first time out but fell just short despite sophomore Mason Frank claiming medalist honors with his round of 38.Without the services of senior Oliver Smith who was on a college visit to Clemson Univerity, the Cards got scores of 46 from Zach Wilson, 47 from Owen Linsmeier, 48 from Shaun Matthews, a 55 from freshman Dylan Mertens and Lukas Means rounded things out with a 57.The Cardinal girls meanwhile once again played against an incomplete team and would win despite struggling to a 215 total.Senior Mila Jenniges was medalist with her round of 42.Anneliese Hammer added a 56, Lily DeBlieck a 57, Rylin Robish carded a 60, Tierra Marxen a 63 and Kayla Bill a 65.Monday the boys travelled to Marshall to take part in the Marshall Invitational and would finish eighth with their score of 350.Marshall Black (305) rolled to the win over teammates Marshall Orange (336) with Dawson-Boyd and Lakeview tieing for third (344).Frank would lead the way with his round of 82 (44-38) as he would settle down on the back nine with a birdie, three bogeys and the rest pars.Linsmeier had the best round of his career with an 85 (46-39) as he recorded birdies on the second and 18th holes.Wilson finished with an 88 (43-45), Smith was back in the line-up and fired a 95 (51-44), Matthews finished with a 98 (49-49) and Means added a 102 (44-58).
