Big plays lead Cards to victory over Giants

Lucas Fuhr returned the opening kick-off 75 yards for a touchdown to set the tone as Redwood Valley went on the road Friday night and rolled to a 38-22 win over LeSueur-Henderson.The Cards had three touchdowns of 40 yards or more and two of over 70 yards and pulled away with two unanswered scores in the third quarter to improve to 1-0 on the young season.Redwood Valley will host Maple River Friday at Inglis Field in their home debut.Against LeSueur-Henderson, after trading touchdowns to make it an 8-8 score, the Cards answered with two straight touchdowns to go up 22-8.Ethan Louwagie would hook up with Zach Wilson on a 14-yard touchdown strike and sophomore Zack Lundeen would hit Ryder Crawford on a 40-yard pass to put the Cards up for good.In the third quarter, Fuhr would tack on his second touchdown of the night on a 10-yard run and Louwagie would then connect with Lundeen on a 72-yard touchdown pass to put the Cards up 38-16 heading into the fourth quarter.Redwood Valley would finish with 378 yards of total offense as Louwagie was an efficient 14-of-19 for 216 and two scores.Crawford had eight receptions for 88 yards and a score, Lundeen had two receptions for 76 yards and a score and was 1-for-1 passing for 40 yards and a touchdown.Andrew Peterson had two catches for 58 yards and one rush for five yards, Fuhr led the ground game with 12 rushes for 85 yards and a touchdown and Duran Kramer had five rushes for 12 yards.Reese Regnier added one catch for seven yards and one run for nine yards, Wilson had one catch for 14 yards and a score and also converted a pair of two-point conversions and Tucker Amberg had one catch for two yards.Defensively the Cards forced three turnovers as Fuhr had eight tackles and an INT, Wilson added eight tackles, a sack and an INT and Max Dillon recovered a fumble and had six tackles.Kramer led the way with 14 tackles, Peterson added 13 and Jordan Matson had 10 tackles.Crawford added six tackles and a tackle-for-loss, Lundeen had seven tackles, Adam Mohr had five tackles, Dugan Rudenick added four tackles, Alex Johnson had four tackles and Regnier had four tackles and a pair of batted passes and Tevin Sivixay and Amberg had three tackles.

Cardinal fall sports teams should be solid

After a memorable 2023, the Redwood Valley fall sports teams should be right back to their winning ways in 2024.Starting with the Redwood Valley Boys and Girls Cross Country teams, the sky will be the limit this year.The Cards are coming off a 2023 campaign that saw them finish fifth in the State for the boys and eighth for the girls.Remarkably, both teams bring back all of their horses led on the boys side by the All-State tandem of Will Ahrens and Kilen Cilek.

Suedbeck claims 10th Ladies Invitational crown

Deb Suedbeck made it an even 10 titles with her five-shot victory Thursday afternoon at the annual Redwood Falls Ladies Invitational.Suedbeck - who recently turned 70 - has been the most dominant champion in the event’s history and fired a solid 18-hole score of 75 to earn her 10th Invitational title.She topped past champion Lori Jacobson (80) as well as local Nancy Hansen (80) who finished second and third respectively.Raelin Brace was fourth with her round of 81.Suedbeck would also team up with Nyla Probst to capture the Flight A team title with a 59.Jacobson and Jodi Mottinger were second (61) and Amy Fenske and Lisa Brown (61) third.In Flight B, Brianna Berglund (89) was the champion followed by Ann Orren (93), Jody Lenhoff (95) and Renee Rosenberg (96).Team champions in Flight B were Tillie Hoyles and Marissa Pillatzki (55), followed by Orren and Jinny Fricke (59) and Roberta Sharpe and Mary Olson (60).In Flight C, the winner was Lindsey Arredondo (93).

Lower Sioux showcases talent at NABI Invitational

A trio of Lower Sioux ballers were part of a team that reached the championship game of the prestigious NABI National Tournament held July 23-27 in Phoenix, AZ.Notable RVHS standouts Lukas Means, Isaiah Dow-Hilliard and Donavin Berry of the Lower Sioux teamed up with fellow players Ty Beaulieu, Jr (Red Lake), Tyler Bohannon (Yankton), Dominic Fairbanks (Cass Lake), Gerald Kingbird, Jr (Red Lake) and Carter Clark (White Earth) to make it all the way to the finals out of 196 teams and over 1,500 athletes competing in the annual event.The Lower Sioux squad went 2-1 in pool play, topping the Hawk Nets (AZ) 98-49 and Spokane (WA) 59-57 while falling to WIPWIP (ID) 53-49.From there however they would rattle off six straight wins to reach the championship.
