State of Minnesota officially returns land to Upper Sioux Community after 161 years

On March 15, a crowd gathered in the Upper Sioux Community Multi-Purpose Building for an official ceremony marking the transfer of the Upper Sioux Agency State Park to the Upper Sioux Community (Pezihutazizi Oyate).The discussion began nearly 20 years ago when then tribal secretary Elitta Gouge, had a conversation with tribal chairman Kevin Jensvold.

Family history discovered while old downtown buildings receive new life

While Justin Paffrath was in the process of obtaining three buildings on South Washington Street, photographs of downtown Redwood Falls revealed one of the buildings holds significant Paffrath family history dating back to 1947.As Shannon Guetter was going through old photographs of downtown Redwood Falls, it was discovered that Justin Paffrath’s great great uncle William Erwin Paffrath ran a hardware store in one of the three buildings Justin recently purchased.
