SWIF to provide updates on nonprofit sector for southwest Minnesota at April 9 event

On Wednesday, April 9, nonprofits located in or serving southwest Minnesota and Southwest Initiative Foundation (SWIF) fund partner affiliates are invited to join for a day of inspiration and connection at Jackpot Junction Casino Hotel in Morton. Learn about the state of nonprofits in the SWIF region, hear from national speaker Dr. Terry Wu about the importance of collaboration, and attend valuable breakout sessions that will help build your skills in the workplace or on an advisory board. The day’s agenda also includes Nonoko Sato, President and CEO of Minnesota Council of Nonprofits, and Attorney General Keith Ellison. There is no cost to attend; a light breakfast, lunch and snacks will be provided.

Sen. Dahms and Rep. Torkelson partner with childcare provider Maria Harms in reducing industry regulations

In an effort to advocate for change by eliminating some regulations around the childcare industry, Senator Gary Dahms and Representative Paul Torkelson authored a bill in partnership with Maria Harms, owner of Snug as a Bug Childcare in Redwood Falls, which was read to the House Children and Families Finance and Policy Committee at the Minnesota State Capitol on Tuesday, Feb. 25.

Storytime with Gil Evans

Children’s author Gil Evans will be reading his new book “Maggie’s Elk Adventure” at 10:30–11:30 a.m. on Tuesday, March 4 at the Redwood Falls Public Library. This new book features our very own Ramsey Park and Tersteegs.

Teen dating violence

Teen dating violence has become more recognized and there is a nationwide initiative to increase awareness and education about the dangers of teen dating abuse. In 2006 the first National Teen Dating Violence Awareness Week was held. Since then, the month of February has been recognized nationally for bringing awareness to teen dating violence. The phrase “it takes a village to raise a child” stands true to what we want for our youth and teens in all aspects of life. Teaching youth and teens about healthy boundaries and relationships with themselves and others is one of the most valuable life lessons we can give.
