On Monday, Jan. 31, the Minnesota Legislature reconvened in St. Paul to begin the 2022 session. The state’s projected $7.7 billion surplus will be one of the most discussed items in St. Paul. Following record inflation, Sen. Gary Dahms and Senate Republicans are pitching a series of tax cuts targeted to working Minnesotans, families, and seniors to help them afford their everyday life. Republicans passed several tax cuts in the last five years including the first income rate tax cuts in 20 years.

The Minnesota Department of Natural Resources will host a candlelight hike Saturday, Feb. 12, at Fort Ridgely State Park. Drop by from 5 to 8 p.m. for snowshoeing or hiking as stars twinkle overhead and candles flicker in the snow.
Most people know this is Valentine’s Week. It’s a time to give flowers, cards, candy, jewelry and other tokens of love. But the focus of Feb. 14 was not always romantic. For many years, Feb. 14 was remembered because of the love of Christ. The first Valentine’s Day had nothing to do with cards and candy, but everything to do with the Cross of Christ, and specifically, a servant of Christ named Valentinus – his name in English is “Valentine.”

The community came together Jan. 27 to celebrate 25 years of the Redwood Falls Public Library building. The staff were delighted to greet over 120 people as they stopped in and enjoyed some refreshments while glancing through the building’s history via photos and newspaper clippings.
