March 7th grade Cardinals of the Month

Why was Madilynn nominated for Cardinal of the Month? Madi is an all-around great student and member of the 7th grade class. She excels academically and is very responsible and thorough with her work. One quality that makes Madi extra special is that she works well with anyone. She is willing to help others, be a leader, and include everyone.

The Holy Spirit will strengthen our faith

Dear friends in Christ, in the Gospel text from Luke 4:1-13 we read about the time that the devil personally tempted Jesus in the wilderness. God the Son has taken up human flesh. He is bringing the battle to the earth. This is the one who will crush the serpent’s head. Not long after the Holy Spirit descended on Jesus in bodily form, like a dove; this very same Spirit led Jesus in the wilderness for forty days of temptation. And he ate nothing during those days. And when they were ended, he was hungry.

County plans for Plum Creek Park expansion

The Redwood County Board met Tuesday, March 15 and authorized a contract with the lowest bidder, Everstrong, for $1,784,706.60 to make bridge repairs on Ridge Avenue and Magnolia Avenue. The bridges are set to be replaced April 1 through Oct. 1. The contractor will also make replacements to the bridge on 305th Street between County Road 11. The replacement is set to start April 1 with completion by July 15.

Traffic detour set for Highway 19 bridge work

During the March 15 Redwood Falls City Council meeting, the Wastewater Facility Plan was approved upon compliance with all requirements of the Minnesota State Statutes. Redwood Falls has contracted with Bolton & Menk Inc. to develop a WasteWater Facility Plan to meet both WQBEL (Water Quality-Based Effluent Limitations) and RES (River Eutrophication Standards) requirements, and a facility plan meeting the requirements of Minnesota Administrative Rules.

Wabasso Senior Dining Menu through March 31

In response to the COVID-19 pandemic, Wabasso Senior Dining is only offering home delivery of meals, until further notice. Home delivery is available to those residing in Wabasso, Wanda, Lucan, Seaforth, Vesta, Delhi, Lamberton, Redwood Falls, Clements, Morton, Fairfax, Franklin, Gibbon, and Winthrop. To order a meal, or for more information, call Diane at 507-829-2385. You are asked to call one day prior by noon to order a meal. The cost is $4 a meal for those ages 60 and over; $2 on Thursdays for Wabasso residents. In response to social distancing measures, there are no senior dining activities in Wabasso at this time.

Volunteer precipitation observers needed

How heavy was the rain overnight? How much snow fell during the winter storm? How bad is the drought this year? The National Weather Service is looking for additional volunteers to record and share measurements of precipitation in and around Redwood County. The addition of even a few observers across the area will lead to a more accurate picture of the weather’s impact. Your reports will truly make a difference!

On March 16, Dr. Anna Cates, University of Minnesota Extension State Soil Health Specialist and Jodi DeJong-Hughes, University of Minnesota Extension Soil Health and Water Quality Educator joined University of Minnesota Extension Crops Educator, Liz Stahl for a wide-ranging discussion on whether storing carbon is possible in production Ag systems and the potential benefits to soil resiliency (and one’s pocketbook) by working to improve soil health.
