To the editor: I’m so happy the Minnesota voters saw fit to reelect Gov. Walz and the Attorney General, Secretary of State and State Auditor.

Could above average snowfall provide drought relief in Minnesota?

Submitted Though some homeowners and commuters in Minnesota consider heavy snowfall an inconvenience, many are hoping this season’s above average snow totals will provide drought relief in many parts of the state, after difficult years in 2021 and 2022. Jeff Strock, a professor at the U of M’s Southwest Research and Outreach Center, provides expert comment on how heavy snowfall is expected to impact soil and drought in 2023.

‘Exploring Conservation on Rented Farmland’ online workshop Jan. 24

Are you a farmland owner who values good stewardship practices or a farmer looking to invest in soil building on rented land? The Land Stewardship Project (LSP), in partnership with the Lac Qui Parle Soil and Water Conservation District (SWCD), is offering an online workshop on Tuesday, Jan. 24, to help you act on your conservation values on rented land. This event, which runs from 5:30 p.m. to 8 p.m., is for farmland owners, retired farmers, farmland inheritors, and conservation farmers who would like ideas on how to invest in soil building on rented land. The workshop will use the Zoom platform and is free and open to the public with online registration.
