Jerome Benedict Schoen, 62, of Redwood Falls, formerly of Morton, passed away peacefully Thursday, February 2, 2023, at his home. Memorial Services were held at 11 a.m.
Reede Gray Elementary has served generations of youth since 1959 and, in some cases, four generations of local families. For 63+ years the building has fulfilled its purpose, but is now beyond its lifetime and repairs exceed 60% of the cost of a new building.

Husband, father, grandfather, Richard Dahlgren, 76, of Bird Island entered fully into the presence of the Lord on Tuesday, January 31, 2023. A memorial service will be held on Friday, April 28, 2023, at 3 p.m. at Our Savior’s Lutheran Church in Bird Island. Visitation will be one hour prior to the service. Burial will be in Bird Island City Cemetery.

The Renville County Soil and Water Conservation District (SWCD) and the Hawk Creek Watershed Project (HCWP) are hosting the “Business of Soil Health: Profitability and Weather Resiliency” meeting on Wednesday, March 1 at the Renville Community Center, starting with registration at 9 a.m. and ending at 2 p.m. after the door prize drawing. Presenters include Matt Tiffany, a Redwood County farmer who will discuss his economics of using cover crops and reduced tillage. Phil Smith, a Renville County farmer, will present on the economic and weather resiliency advantages he has experienced with regenerative ag. Dr. Jonathan Lundgren, CEO of Blue Dasher Farm, will discuss the benefits and biology of regenerative soil health. The full agenda is available at renvilleswcd.com and hawkcreekwatershed. org. Donald “Doc” H. Werner, 85, of Redwood Falls passed away on January 31, 2023, at Valley View Manor nursing home in Lamberton surrounded by his loving family. Funeral services were held at 10:30 a.m. on Friday, February 3, 2023, from St. John Evangelical Lutheran Church in Redwood Falls. Burial, with military honors, followed in Bethany Lutheran Cemetery in Wabasso. Visitation was held Thursday, February 2, 2023, from 5 until 7 p.m. at Nelson-Hillestad Funeral Home in Redwood Falls and continued on Friday, from 9:30 until 10:30 a.m., at the church. Donald Harold Werner, the son of Harold and Elaine Werner, was born February 23, 1937 in Vail Township, Redwood County. He grew up on a farm near Wabasso, attended country school and graduated from Wabasso Public Schools. Following graduation, Doc served his country in the Army National Guard. After his military service he worked various jobs but most notably for Murphy Motor Freight and for the City of Redwood Falls as a Park Ranger in Ramsey Park for 27 years, before retiring in 2010. Doc was always happy-go-lucky and his laughter was contagious. He enjoyed many hobbies including gardening, growing flowers, traveling, demo derbies, fishing, polka dancing, driving his golf cart in Ramsey Park, and getting ice cream treats at Dari King. Most importantly, he loved spending time with his sister, children and grandchildren. Donald is survived by his daughters, Denise (Rick) Siegfried of Redwood Falls and Denine (Chuck) Hellendrung of Fairfax; sons, Darrin Werner and Don Werner, both of Redwood Falls; grandchildren, Eric (Monica) Siegfried, Tyler Siegfried, Courtney (Andrew) Frankenstein, Zach, Kayln, and Elyiana Hellendrung and Skylar Werner; great-grandchildren Case, McKay and Colt Siegfried; and sister, Debra Wertish of Redwood Falls. He was preceded in death by his parents, Harold and Elaine Werner; brother, Gary “Beep” Werner and special friend, JoAnn Opitz. Arrangements were with Nelson-Hillestad Funeral and Crem
