Upcoming Programs at the Wabasso Public Library

With the kickoff of our Summer Reading Program less than a week away (May 30), we wanted to remind everyone about some of the bigger programs we having coming up in the next few weeks through the Wabasso Library. Naturally, all of our programs and activities are free.

T-Hawks hold off Cardinal netters in Section semis

A pair of tough three set losses proved to be the difference as Montevideo edged Redwood Valley 4-3 Tuesday afternoon in Section 3A semifinal action held at the RVHS tennis courts. The Cardinals - the number two seed in the Section - topped seventh seed Pipestone Area 7-0 to open up the postseason on Monday but couldn’t survived against the third-seeded Thunderhawks.

Redwood Falls Rotary Club builds beds for kids

The Redwood Falls Rotary Club spearheaded a project to make Beds for Kids. The beds were built through Redwood Valley High School Continuing Education program, which enabled the builders to utilize the wood shop at Redwood Valley High School. The beds were built by Rotarians Dave Steinkraus, Mike Kaufenberg, Michael Joldersma, and Robin Stegner. Non-Rotarians Chico Jensen and Cole Huhnerkoch participated through Community Ed. Funding was provided by three Thrivent Action Grants from Stacy and Joel Johnson and Robin Stegner, a generous donation from the Missions Committee of the First Presbyterian Church, and the Redwood Falls Rotary Club.

Jury finds South Dakota man guilty of trespass

A Redwood County District Court jury found Anthony Aldon Johns, 48, of Box Elder, South Dakota, guilty of two counts of Trespass, County Attorney Jenna Peterson announced Tuesday, May 16. The jury deliberated for approximately a half hour on May 3, before delivering the guilty verdict around 5:24 p.m.

Rabbit girls begin quest for Section title

With wins in nine of their past 11 games the Wabasso girls softball team has officially put their name in the mix for a chance to claim the Section 3A title. The Rabbits (15-6) opened up Sub-Section play Tuesday afternoon as the number two seed in the Section 3A-South against Adrian Area and with a win should move on to Saturday’s action.

Redwood Valley High School Class of 2023 graduation ceremony is Sunday, June 4 at 1 p.m. in the Redwood Valley Gymnasium.

Wabasso American Legion Auxiliary judge 2023 Poppy Poster Contest

St. Anne’s Elementary and the Wabasso Elementary School joined with the Wabasso American Legion Auxiliary (Victor Hirsch #263) to sponsor the 2023 poppy poster contest. The students were supplied the rules for the contest by the auxiliary and the teachers supplied the time and support for the student’s efforts. As a result, there were some excellent submissions for the Wabasso American Legion Auxiliary ladies to judge. They spent lots of time choosing this year’s winners.

Cards fall to Fairmont, Sleepy Eye

The struggles continued for the Redwood Valley baseball team as they dropped a pair of games with Fairmont and Sleepy Eye as we get closer to Section 3AA postseason play. The Cards are looking at a tough potential opening round match on Saturday with Luverne in round one.
