Township Day set March 8

Minnesota’s 1,780 townships will hold their annual meeting on Tuesday, March 8. Known as Township Day, these annual meetings are held every year on the second Tuesday in March. Residents of the townships will meet to voice their opinions about local issues with other township residents and also vote directly on their annual tax levy — direct democracy in action. Citizens attending annual meetings also often discuss and vote on other local issues. In addition, many of the state’s townships will hold their township officer elections on Tuesday’s Township Day.

Celebrate farming at New Ulm Hub Club Farm Show

It’s back! It may be a year late, but the 40th annual New Ulm Farm-City Hub Club Farm Show will take place Friday and Saturday, March 11 and 12 in the Civic Center on the Brown County Fairgrounds. The Farm Show committee and Hub Club members are excited to be able to hold the show. The club show was the “last show in town” before Covid shut things down in March 2020 and is the first event of its type to come back.

This Lent, how can we welcome and prepare for him in new, different way?

This past Sunday morning I was praying “No one pours new wine into old wineskins ... rather, new wine is poured into fresh wineskins” from Mark 2:22. It was the antiphon (bible verse) that was prayed as part of The Liturgy of the Hours (daily prayers/scriptures of the Church). As I was reflecting on this verse, I realized that this verse was fitting as we are about to begin the holy season of Lent.

Elections have consequences

How much damage can one man do? In one year President [Joe] Biden has done a lot of damage. To our economy, energy, borders, crime, supply chain and education. Biden being weak and wrong on almost every foreign policy decisions has lead Russia into Ukraine. Shutting down our pipelines and drilling in America gave power to Putin and about $1 billion per day. For years our government suppressed the truth about Russia and China. The media helps to spread the half truths and lies. They get rich on the government “officials” feeding them money and telling them what they want to report. That way they can cover up the horrendous performance on the withdrawal in Afghanistan leading to the deaths of 13 service members. Now, their totalitarian control creates fear to get power, money and control.

Recognizing International Women’s Day

March 8 is International Women’s Day. Don’t ask me how I know this. I just do. So let us speak of Woman, specifically the International Woman. I like her. Very much. In my opinion She deserves much more than a day. But time waits for no man. Or woman, it seems. So ... let’s get to it.
