Eugene Goblirsch

Eugene Goblirsch of rural Redwood Falls passed away peacefully on March 23rd at his home on the family farm, the same location where he was born 90 years earlier. He was the son of Charles and Margaret (Prokosch) Goblirsch and had a beloved sister, Dolores (Rothmeier). Gene attended St. Anne’s School in Wabasso and was a lifelong member of the parish. He proudly served in the Army as a Military Police officer in Berlin, Germany. In 1955, he married the cute neighbor girl, Marlene Manderscheid, the love of his life. They had a “handful” (as they lovingly described them) of children: Gerry (Sonja) of Alexandria, Kris (Kevin) Callahan of Eagan, Bob (Janelle) of Wabasso, Ken of Redwood Falls, and Sandy of Redwood Falls. They were blessed with twelve grandchildren: Sam (Jessica) and Sophie (Adrienne) Callahan, Brandon Goblirsch, Mindy (Ryan) Fleischer, Jamie (Beau) Taylor, Gina, Dustin, Kendra, Brady (Courtney), Alaina, Maverick, and Marshal Goblirsch; and a slew of adorable pets. Gene was the grandpa who taught all the kids to shoot and to fish, and he always had a pliers handy.

LETTERS TO THE EDITOR

To the Editor: In February, there was a column published in this paper that stated that a man was shot by the Minneapolis police due to the color of his skin. Even though I agree with the argument that this should not have happened the way it did, I do not agree with this writer pushing the race card.

Sun, clouds and volcanoes are the big climate movers; not man

To the Editor: This in response to the "Strategic Farming: Let's talk crops! Storing Carbon in production Ag systems" article in the Gazette that implies we need to stop increasing the amount of CO2 we humans are putting into the atmosphere so that we lessen the probability of extreme weather events. About 3.2% of all CO2 in the atmosphere is man-made.

Forgiving Pride

“You could never afford those!” The woman’s words stung. I’d never owned a pair of prescription sunglasses before.

Sweet songs of spring

The signs of spring are becoming more evident as the days get longer. A beautiful male cardinal sang his approval of the warm temps in Redwood Falls.
