Trout fishing, turkey seasons now open

Minnesota’s popular warm weather, stream trout season opened up Saturday, April 16, with quality fishing opportunities in every region of the state. Brook trout and splake fishing also opened up on Lake Superior and its tributary streams.

Mass of Christian Burial for Alois “Al” Brey, 96, of Wabasso was Tuesday, April 19, 2022, at 2 p.m. at St. Anne’s Catholic Church in Wabasso. A livestream and recording of the service is available at www.lowafc. org. Visitation was one hour prior to the church. Interment with military honors followed at St. Anne’s Catholic Cemetery.

Lee Austin Wright, 49, of Pine Drive Bar and Grill, Holcombe, Wis. passed away unexpectedly Saturday, April 9, 2022 at home.

Charlotte Marie (Nott) Tiffany

Charlotte Marie (Nott) Tiffany, 87, of La Puente, Calif. passed away on March 30, 2022. She was born on May 29, 1934 to Lester Nott and Ruby Quesenberry Nott. Services will be held on Monday, June 13, 2022 in San Dimas, Calif.

Braxton William Welch

Braxton William Welch, 20 months, of Wabasso passed away on Friday, April 15, 2022. Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 10 a.m. on Saturday, April 23, 2022 at St. Anne’s Catholic Church in Wabasso. Visitation will be held from 4 until 8 p.m. on Friday, April 22, 2022 at St. Anne’s Catholic Church in Wabasso and will continue from 9 until 10 a.m. on Saturday. Burial will take place at a later date.

Ellen Cay Varner, 61, of Redwood Falls died Sunday, April 10, 2022 at St. Cloud Hospital. Funeral services were held at 11 a.m. on Saturday, April 16, 2022 at Nelson-Hillestad Funeral Home in Redwood Falls. Visitation was from 10 until 11 a.m. on Saturday, April 16, 2022 at Nelson-Hillestad Funeral Home in Redwood Falls.

John Rice

The funeral service for John Rice, 92, of Hanley Falls, will be at 10:30 a.m. on Saturday, April 23, 2022, at the Yellow Medicine Lutheran Church in Hanley Falls. A livestream and recording of the service will be available on the church Facebook page. Visitation will be Friday, April 22, from 5 until 8 p.m. at the Sunset Funeral Home in Echo, with a prayer service at 7:30 p.m. Visitation will continue one hour prior to the service at the church. Interment with military honors will follow at the West Yellow Medicine Lutheran Cemetery.

My first 90 days on the job

It's hard to believe that next week I will have completed my first three months at the Redwood Gazette. Time really does fly. (Especially in a fast-paced industry.) Thank you to all that have been patient with me as I am still learning the ropes to becoming editor. I am lucky to have such a great mentor like Editor Deb Moldaschel.
