U.S. Highway 71/Highway 19 has been reduced to one lane from Noble Avenue (Redwood Falls) to Redwood County Road 2 (west of Morton). The lane closures are necessary to create a work zone for MnDOT bridge maintenance crews to replace an approach panel. A width limit of 12 feet will be in effect.
With Minnesota primaries just around the corner, and real estate and yard sale season in full swing, MnDOT reminds everyone that the placement of political campaign and other advertising signage is not allowed under state law on any highway right of way. All state, county, city and township roads and highways fall under the same state law.
Redwood County and Arvig will collaborate on a $4.4 million project to provide fiber internet services to eight cities in the county. The project, however, is contingent upon a successful application to the State of Minnesota Border to Border Broadband Development Grant program.
Calvin Leon Keil passed away March 19, 2020 from natural causes (just as the Covid-19 pandemic began and on his daughter, Karen’s, birthday) at Belleview Heights Assisted Living and Memory Care in Aurora, Colo. where he resided. Calvin was born December 16, 1930 (a month earlier than he was due) to William R. Keil and Gena S. (nee Knudson) Keil 1930 in the family home on Walnut Street in Redwood Falls, a southern Minnesota farming community with a population of about 4,000. Calvin grew up in Redwood Falls, first at the family’s home in town when his father worked as a state highway maintenance man and later at his grandmother’s farm where they moved to care for her before her death. Calvin and his brothers helped their father work the farm while his father also continued to work for the state highway department. As a boy, he enjoyed participating in the 4-H Club and raised pigs to take to the fair in hopes of winning ribbons or to sell to interested buyers. He graduated from Redwood Falls High School in 1948.
