City council approves final application of 2021 North Redwood Falls Watermain Looping

At the Redwood Falls City Council meeting on Tuesday, Aug. 16, the council approved the final payment application for the 2021 North Redwood Falls Watermain Looping for $41,860.65. The final contract price totals $737,235, which is under budget of the original bid amount of $830,160. The council authorizing the final payment initiates the beginning of the twoyear maintenance period. The final acceptance date will be Aug. 16, 2024.

Honoring Sue Osborne

Since 1988, Sue Osborne has dedicated her time to educate young students. Osborne finished up her last school year at Redwood Area Schools in June of 2021 before deciding to return for one last school year.

At the Redwood County Board of Commissioners Aug. 16 meeting, the board recognized Jim Sandgren, Sheriff’s Department, for 30 years of service to Redwood County, Michael Ingebretson, Sheriff’s Department, for 20 years of service to Redwood County, and Michelle Koenig, Administration Department, for five years of service to Redwood County.

What’s in a Name?

Due to the overwhelming response (glad you liked it, Mom) to a recent column about nautical terminology, this is a kind of follow-up. Thus, I give you boat names. [Warning. This column contains more than your recommended daily allowance of puns. This is not my preference. This is how it must be.] Let’s start with the question: Why name your boat? Most people don’t name their bikes? I guess a few folks name their cars. (Speed Racer: Mach Five; Goofy: Bessie; Etc.) But a boat? Well, for one, there’s more space on the back/side of your boat for a name. But in olden days, boats were named after goddesses and saints because it was thought ensure safe voyage. After a while, the close observer noticed there was no correlation, let alone causation between a good name, a bad name, and the outcome. Thus, names of goddesses and saints were set aside and mariners started getting “creative”.

In response to the COVID-19 pandemic, Wabasso Senior Dining is only offering home delivery of meals, until further notice. Home delivery is available to those residing in Wabasso, Wanda, Lucan, Seaforth, Vesta, Delhi, Lamberton, Redwood Falls, Clements, Morton, Fairfax, Franklin, Gibbon, and Winthrop. To order a meal, or for more information, call Diane at 507-829-2385. You are asked to call one day prior by noon to order a meal. The cost is $4 a meal for those ages 60 and over; $2 on Thursdays for Wabasso residents. Menus are subject to change. Menu: Monday, Aug. 29: Turkey and gravy over mashed potatoes, peas and carrots, warm apple crisp.
