Congratulations to the 2024 WHS Homecoming Queen Emma Salfer and King Kayson Harms and the entire Royalty Court.Wabasso High School crowned their Homecoming king and queen on Monday, Sept.
It was a memorable afternoon for Redwood Valley senior Kendall Huhnerkoch as she recorded her 1,000th career kill in the Cardinals thrilling 3-2 win over Wabasso Thursday at the RVHS gynasium.Huhnerkoch finished with 20 kills, 19 digs, four set assists and two blocks as the Cardinals outlasted a good Wabasso squad 25-22, 16-25, 31-29, 19-25, 15-12 in front of a packed gymnasium as part of Redwood Valley’s Homecoming Week.The Cardinals improved to 15-5 on the season and are a perfect 6-0 against Section 3AA opponents.
Throughout the year, 4-H youth select project areas that reflect personal areas of interest and pursue hands-on learning in both self-directed and guided environments.
To the Editor:Someone commented to me that I don’t have an endgame or goal with all of my letter-writing.
It was a battle state-ranked powerhouses as visiting Marshall would edge Redwood Valley 25-34 Thursday afternoon at the Redwood Valley Invitational.Marshall is ranked number one in Class AA while the Cardinals have been ranked number one in Class A and the two teams would duke it out on a warm, fall afternoon at the tough, hilly Redwood Falls Golf Club track.The Cardinal boys would put together the best outing of the season as of the top seven runners, six would set either season or personal bests led by the dynamic one-two punch of seniors Will Ahrens and Kilen Cilek.Both would set personal bests but it was Ahrens who pulled away late and would finish in first knocking 18 seconds off of his career best with a time of 15:23 to capture the race.Cilek would finish third, knocking four seconds off of his career best with a time of 15:55 as the duo continue to push towards the postseason.Landyn Nordby would take 27 seconds off of his season best to finish in seventh (16:43), Tyler Robinson came up big as he knocked 36 seconds off of his previous best to place 10th (17:14) and Clayton Salmon was 13th with a time of 17:31 to round out the top five.Aidan Salmon hit a personal best of 18:20 in placing 22nd and Elway Berg had a season best time of 18:26 to finish 23rd to round out the top seven.Ben Jorgenson led the JV with a second place finish (18:28), Lane Breitkreutz was fifth (18:58), Cheng Lin had a personal best to finish sixth (19:46), Joe Gerke was seventh, Thomas Gerke ninth and Jackson Bawden 10th.The state-ranked Cardinal girls meanwhile were not even challenged as they cruised to the title with 21 team points.GFW was second with 71 and Wabasso third (107) in the eight team race.Addie Thomes once again led the way for the Cards with a first place finish (19:46).Lola Luze and Ellie Nelson finished one second apart (20:02-20:03) to place second and third respectively and freshman Reese Prescott (21:20) was sixth.Madi Munsell had a nice race to finish ninth (22:15), Annie Lunde was 14th with a season best time of 22:59 and Heather Panitzke was 16th (23:18).Aleena Vestouvanh set a personal best to finish first in the JV race (23:24), Klaira Horejsi (24:16) was second, Ming Lin third, Avery Monson fourth and Gracelyn Malecek fifth.Mary Slavin captured first in the JH race.The Cardinals travel to BOLD today and will head to Perham on the 10th before gearing up for postseason action.
