Jacobson captures fifth Invitational crown

Pulling away down the stretch, Willmar native Andy Jacobson coasted to his fifth Palmer Kise Invitational title Saturday and Sunday at the Redwood Falls Golf Club.Despite hot, humid conditions, Jacobson fired a two-under par 68 on Saturday and coupled that with a one-over par 71 on Sunday to win by five shots (139) over Dean Wilson (144).Brett Benson - playing out of Olivia - also fired an opening round 68 and was right in the mix with five holes to go but would go five over par on holes 14, 15 and 16 to allow Jacobson to smooth his way in with pars and a birdie on 17 to ice it.Benson would finish in third place with a 145 total (68-77).Matt Gorans - who has challenged numerous times in recent years but hasn’t broken through yet with a victory - was just two back after day one with an opening round of even par 70.
