Cardinal golfers open with victory

The Redwood Valley golf teams opened up the season with wins over Red Rock Central at a meet held at the Redwood Falls Golf Club.The Cardinals boys rolled to a 189-255 victory over the Falcons.Oliver Smith and Zach Wilson would share medalist honors with rounds of 44.Mason Frank added a 47, Shaun Matthews a 54 and Owen Linsmeier added a 58.The Cardinal girls shot a 207, led by senior Mila Jenniges who earned medalist honors with her round of 38.Senior Taylor Klabunde added a 49, Rylin Robish a 59, Anneliese Hammer carded a 61, Ella O’Keefe a 62 and Kayla Bill a 65.The Cardinal girls are coming off of a State Tournament appearance with Jenniges finishing in the top 10 individually a season ago.

Four Cardinals earn All Big South honors

After dominating Big South Conference play this past season the Redwood Valley Cardinals had four players recently named to the All Conference squad for the 2023-24 campaign.The Cards finished 15-2 in conference play and were a perfect 8-0 in the red division en route to a number one seed in the Section 3AA-South.Junior Lukas Means and senior Isaiah Dow-Hilliard were both named to the first team while senior Brandon Lang and junior Elway Berg earned honorable mention honors.Gavin DeBeer and Carter Sehr of Luverne, Rysley Borman of Pipestone Area, Bennet Flohrs of St.

Lundeen, Huhnerkoch named All-Conference

A pair of Redwood Valley Cardinals were recently named to the Big South “Red Division” All-Conference squad for the 2023-24 campaign.Senior Kenzie Lundeen and junior Kendall Huhnerkoch were both named to the team after leading the Cards to a successful run in conference play this season.Kiesli Smith and Kira John from Luverne, Jadyn Kor of Pipestone and the duo of Hadley and Haidyn Sammons of Windom all were part of the first team.Lundeen led the Cardinals in scoring (13.6 ppg), steals (81), free throw shooting (74 percent) and shot 33 percent from long range while finishing with a team-high 76 made three-pointers.She was also second in rebounding (162 rebounds) and assists (88) and added six blocked shots.Huhnerkoch was second in scoring (13.4 ppg) and third in rebounding (159 rebounds) to go along with 56 steals, 25 assists and 19 blocked shots.Senior Kylee Larsen wrapped up a nice career by finishing first on the team in field goal percentage (55 percent), was first in rebounding (216 rebounds) and blocked shots (27) and also averaged 10.8 ppg and had 23 steals.Junior Cali Johnson averaged 9.6 ppg, was first in assists (107) and second in steals (67) and had 125 rebounds, 16 made three-pointers and 10 blocked shots.Junior Hailyn Ourada was second on the team with 43 made three’s and averaged 5.5 ppg, 94 rebounds and had 35 steals.Morgan Kodet added 4.7 ppg with 137 rebounds, 20 assists and 15 steals and senior Brynne Farasyn averaged 1.7 ppg with 54 rebounds, 26 steals and 32 assists.
