Means reaches 1,000 point milestone in win
It was a memorable night for Redwood Valley junior guard Lukas Means as he recorded his 1,000th career point in the Cards 91-67 rout of rival Pipestone Area Friday night in Redwood Falls.Means has put together an impressive year and a half of basketball, scoring over 1,000 points in that time frame and helping lead the Cards - winners of six of their past seven - to the Section 3AA title game a year ago and to a first place Section 3AA-South record of 15-4 this season.Friday night - needing just 11 points to surpass 1,000 - he would knock down a first half three to hit the mark and would finish with a team-high 26 points, six rebounds, five steals and two assists.“I’ve worked hard during the season and also outside of games and practice to get better,” Means said, “I put up a ton of shots in the offseason and am always working on my game so it feels great to be recognized.”Despite the individual recognition, Means is a team first player who is focused on helping get the Cards back to the State Tournament.“We’ve been putting in hard work and doing a good job of playing team basketball,” he said, “The guys are doing the little things that matter and holding each other accountable and you can see the results.”Head Coach Aaron Lindahl - who has the Cards in a position to get back to State this spring - had nothing but good things to say about his talented junior.“His success is very well earned,” Lindahl said, “He puts so much time in the gym working on his game so it’s awesome to see him hit this milestone and have his hard work paid off.
