Cardinal boys go unbeaten at Holiday Tourney
The Redwood Valley boys basketball team continued their winning ways by going unbeaten at the Willmar Holiday Tournament Thursday and Friday in Willmar.The Cardinals topped MACCRAY and Dassel-Cokato to improve to 8-1 on the young season and are near the top of the Section 3AA standings as we head into the post-Christmas schedule.The Cards opened against MACCRAY and would roll to a 14-point halftime lead - 41-27 - and never looked back.Redwood Valley would knock down 10 three’s and forced 23 Wolverine turnovers to earn the win.Isaiah Dow had a big game shooting 50 percent from the floor and finishing with 28 points, 12 rebounds, three assists and three steals.Lukas Means knocked down seven three’s to finish with 25 points, five assists, three steals and three rebounds.Senior Oliver Smith went 3-for-3 from long range and would finish with 13 points, five assists, four rebounds and three steals.Ethan Louwagie had six points, five assists and three rebounds and Brandon Lang had three points, 14 rebounds and two blocked shots.Brady Kienitz led MACCRAY with 20 points, four rebounds and three assists.The Cards got a good battle from Dassel-Cokato but would pull away in the second half to win 73-65.The Cards continued to struggle from the charity stripe (10-for-20) but hit 11 three’s and shot nearly 50 percent from inside the arc.Dow had 22 points, seven rebounds and two blocked shots, Means added 11 points and five rebounds and Elway Berg returned to the line-up to finish with 16 points, nine rebounds and two assists.Smith had eight points and six assists, Lang added six points and eight boards, Andrew Peterson had four points and three boards, Louwagie had four points, five rebounds and three assists and Laiten Goodthunder had two points.The Cards host JCC on Friday for a key Big South Conference match-up.
