Cardinal gymnasts second at Snowflake Invite

The Redwood Valley gymnastics team earned a second place finish Saturday at the Snowflake Invitational held in Marshall.The Cardinals scored a 132.625 to place second to champion Benson/KMS (135.125) and easily ahead of third place New Ulm United (130.375) in the seven team event.Senior Avery Wilson captured the All-Around with a score of 35.45, topping Marshall’s Cameen Mcfarquhar (34.65).On bars, Wilson would finish in first (8.8).

Cardinal girls split at Holiday Tourney

The Redwood Valley girls basketball team went 1-1 over the break at the Willmar Holiday Tournament.The Cardinals (6-3) fell to NL-Spicer 73-61 in opening round action Thursday but would top Willmar 54-41 to close out the event.In the loss to the Wildcats, Kylee Larsen led the way with a double-double of 16 points and 12 rebounds.Hailyn Ourada knocked down four three’s and finished with 12 points, two rebounds and two steals and Cali Johnson had 11 points, four rebounds and four assists.Kendall Huhnerkoch added 10 points, four rebounds, four assists and four steals.Morgan Kodet chipped in with six points and four boards.In the win over Willmar, Kenzie Lundeen had 15 points and seven boards, Huhnerkoch added 14 points, eight rebounds and four steals and Laren had nine points and 13 rebounds.Ourada chipped in with six points and four boards, Kodet had six points, six rebounds and two assists and Johnson had four points, five assists and four rebounds.The Cards also topped Cedar Mountain in a final pre-Christmas tune up 71-37.Huhnerkoch had 15 points and 17 rebounds and Larsen added 14 points and 14 rebounds.Lundeen finished with 13 points, six rebounds, five assists and four steals, Johnson had 10 points, four rebounds and three assists and Ourada had nine points and two assists.Melayna Nez added five points and two boards, Brinn Wicks had two points and four rebounds, Brynne Farasyn had two points and four boards and Lilyana Dixon added one point.The Cards host Springfield tonight in non-conference action and travel to JCC on Friday.
