Cardinals pick up quality win over Eagles
Playing a complete game from start to finish the Redwood Valley boys basketball team upended a good New Ulm squad 80-70 in a pre-Christmas non-conference showdown.The Cardinals shot nearly 50 percent from the floor and won by double digits despite knocking down just six three’s and turning it over 20 times.Lukas Means had another big night, knocking down four three’s and finishing with a game-high 30 points and six assists.Isaiah Dow added 14 points, six rebounds, three assists and three steals, Oliver Smith had 13 points and four boards on just six shots and Brandon Lang had 10 points and 12 boards.Ethan Louwagie had nine points and seven rebounds, Andrew Peterson added two points and six boards and Kanyon Hicks had two points and three boards.The Eagles were led by standout Colton Benson - the son of former RVHS graduate Tami Haas - who had 23 points and five boards.
Cougars roll past Madelia
Racing out to a 44-29 halftime lead the Cedar Mountain boys basketball team rolled to a 44-29 win over Madelia in pre-Christmas non-conference action.The dynamic duo of Blake Schueller and Blake Steffl continued to light up the stat sheet as Schueller finished with 28 points, nine rebounds, three assists, three steals and three blocked shots.Steffl added 26 points, eight assists, seven rebounds and four steals.Branndon Pendleton also had a big night finishing with 19 points, eight rebounds, seven assists and five steals.Zach Sandgren had six points and four boards and Carson Schiller had four points.Earlier the Cougars erupted for 101 points in a 101-58 thumping of Nicollet.Schueller went 17-of-23 from the floor on the way to a season-high 36 points, 10 rebounds, four steals and three assist.Steffl added 24 points, five assist, four rebounds and four steals and Pendleton had 16 points, nine assists, six steals and five rebounds.Sandgren had 14 points, six rebounds and three assists.

The veteran Redwood Valley gymnastics team remained unbeaten on the season with a 133.575-127.925 win over rival Jackson Co.
