Phyllis Margaret (Bernardy) Zvorak, 81, of Ellendale, N.D. died May 4, 2023, at Oakes Good Samaritan Center, Oakes, N.D. surrounded by her family. Phyllis was born November 19, 1941, in Seaforth, Redwood County, to George and Philomena “Minnie” (Brey) Bernardy. She was an only child. She attended St. Anne’s School in Wabasso and graduated from there in 1959. Phyllis spent many years in food service starting at the Atlantic Hotel in Marshall where she met the love of her life Lauren Zvorak. They married in 1964 and with that marriage came three amazing children. After that she worked at Seven Seas in Mandan, N.D. then Brown Drug in Sheridan, Wyo. She then moved to Ellendale where she worked at multiple places in the food service industry. Phyllis was a social butterfly. She loved to give people grief and didn’t understand why they returned the favor. When asked how she was, her response was “old, fat and sassy”. She enjoyed bowling, playing bingo (even though she said she never won), she had a love for baking that was enjoyed by anyone who knew her and she loved going to school events to watch and support all children, especially her children and grandchildren. She was a member of St. Helena’s Catholic Church, Ellendale and St. Ann’s Altar Society. She retired in November 2021. Phyllis is survived by one son: Adam (Mary) Zvorak, Spearfish, S.D.; two daughters: Audrey (Jim) Richter, Windsor, Colo., Lorraine (Paul) Betting, Ellendale; seven grandchildren: Alex Zvorak, Logan (Megan) Zvorak, Mollie Zvorak, Timothy (Ashley) Richter, Dustin (Stephanie) Richter, McKenzie (Luke) Dugan, Kendal (Brent) Fischer; seven greatgrandchildren: Emery Richter, Collynns Richter; Gannon Richter, Kohen Richter, Aleya Richter, Weston Richter, Lauren Fischer. She was preceded in death by her husband Lauren of 45 years and her parents George and Philomena Bernardy. Visitation is 2 - 6:30 p.m., a Rosary will be held at 5 p.m. and Vigil at 5:30 p.m. on Friday, May 12 at St. Hel

Some of my favorite verses from Scripture for comfort and assurance comes from the Gospel of John. In John 14:1-3 Jesus says: “Do not let your hearts be troubled. You believe in God; believe also in me. My Father’s house has many rooms; if that were not so, would I have told you that I am going there to prepare a place for you? And if I go and prepare a place for you, I will come back and take you to be with me that you also may be where I am.”
