Wabasso Diesel Mechanics awarded LYFT Pathways Innovation Grant funding

Launch Your Future Today (LYFT) Career Pathways is a rural career and technical education pathway initiative in the 18-county service region of southwest and west central Minnesota, launched in 2018 with a legislative grant secured by the Southwest West Central (SWWC) Service Cooperative and its partners. Since then, LYFT Pathways continues to be supported through a state-wide Rural Career and Technical Education (CTE) Consortium Grant, which was passed by the Minnesota Legislature.

Wabasso senior dining menu through Friday. Dec. 23

In response to the COVID-19 pandemic, Wabasso Senior Dining is only offering home delivery of meals, until further notice. Home delivery is available to those residing in Wabasso, Wanda, Lucan, Seaforth, Vesta, Delhi, Lamberton, Redwood Falls, Clements, Morton, Fairfax, Franklin, Gibbon, and Winthrop. To order a meal, or for more information, call Diane at 507-829-2385. You are asked to call one day prior by noon to order a meal. The cost is $4 a meal for those ages 60 and over; $2 on Thursdays for Wabasso residents. Menus are subject to change.

New look Cardinals off to fast start

Despite heavy graduation losses from a season ago the new look Redwood Valley boys basketball team is off to an impressive 2-0 start with season opening wins over Montevideo and Minnewaska Area. A year ago, veteran Head Coach Aaron Lindahl’s Cards put together a strong campaign, going 22-8 overall and 9-3 in Big South Conference play.

What It Takes

In America, every four years the word “football” is surprisingly unclear. Americans know the word “football” to mean a sport played with an oblong ball and very little foot. In the rest of the world, the word “football” refers to a sport that is played almost exclusively with a foot. Hence the name of the sport. Why do Americans refer to this sport as soccer? Because the word football was already taken by a sport largely independent of the foot. Go figure.

CURE calls on Minnesota to halt permitting CO2 pipelines until PHMSA federal safety regulations are complete

Clean Up the River Environment CURE (Clean Up the River Environment), a Montevideo-based rural organization, along with partner organizations in Iowa, Nebraska, North Dakota, and South Dakota, are calling on the Pipeline and Hazardous Materials Safety Administration (PHMSA) to advise states not to permit any new CO2 pipelines until regulations for high pressure hazardous liquid CO2 pipelines from PHMSA are complete. Due to the unknowns around CO2 pipelines, CURE and Upper Midwest partner organizations, also request that PHMSA hold a public meeting on both the research questions and knowledge gaps that need to be addressed for a rigorous CO2 rulemaking and what CO2 regulations should contain.
