Angel Fundraiser Supports CentraCare – Redwood Hospice

CentraCare - Redwood Hospice program is again raising funds through sales of a Willow Tree Angel Ornament. This year’s Angel ornament, “Sign for Love,” is the 16th in the series and will be available for $20 at both Sward Kemp locations, CentraCare Pavilion and special holiday events. Proceeds of the ornament purchase go directly to CentraCare – Redwood’s hospice program.

Douglas “Doug” Ziegenhagen

Douglas “Doug” Ziegenhagen, 83, passed away on Tuesday, November 1, 2022, in his hometown of Morgan after a long battle with kidney failure. A Celebration of Life will be held at 1 p.m. on Saturday, December 3, 2022, in United Methodist Church in Morgan. Arrangements are with Nelson-Hillestad Funeral and Cremation Service of Morgan. Condolences may be sent via www.nelson-hillestad.com. Doug was born on May 21, 1939, to Chris and Isabel Ziegenhagen at the family farm in Eden Township. He attended District 57 country school in Brown County until 7th grade and graduated from Morgan High School in 1957. After high school, he continued helping his dad on the family farm. He spent a summer shelling corn and worked for Blomeke Construction. He spent two years in the Army from 1959 to 1961 and was stationed in Baumholder, Germany. Shortly after leaving the military, Doug met and married the love of his life, Sue. They were married 53 years. Together they built a home and worked the family farm. Eventually, they adopted two children, Amee and Brian. They also graciously welcomed three exchange daughters from Germany in their home. Doug’s greatest accomplishment was earning his pilot’s license. He was also an avid hunter and fisherman. His biggest fish tale was when he caught two 30-inch walleyes on Lake Superior with his Army buddy, Lance Lind. Doug didn’t retire from farming until he was 80 years old. Even though he was still farming, he often spent his mornings drinking coffee at Potter’s elevator. He was an active member of the United Methodist Church in Morgan, where he served countless years on the board of trustees. Doug will forever be remembered as a loving husband, dad, grandpa, uncle, and friend. He leaves behind a legacy of hard work, jokes, laughter, and love. Doug was preceded in death by his parents, Chris and Isabel Ziegenhagen; sister, Joan Gordon; brothers, James and Don Ziegenhagen. He is survived by his wife, Sue Ziegenhagen; sisters, Lois Fitz

Redwood County Board supports Operation Green Light for Veterans

Redwood County Board of Commissioners met Tuesday, Nov. 1, and awarded the equipment rental with an operator in the Belview/Delhi area to Zimmermann Maintenance. Every year Redwood County enters into a contract for seasonal equipment rental in Belview/ Delhi Maintenance Area to provide various snow removal, grading and maintenance activities. The average yearly cost for these services is $50,279 over the last eight years. This contract will continue to sustain efficient and timely road services to the area.

City Council approves new fishing pier to Lake Redwood

Redwood Falls City Council met Tuesday, Nov. 1 and approved the replacing of the wine cooler cooling condensing unit for the Liquor Lodge. The wine cooler in the Liquor Lodge is 20 years old and recently began leaking refrigerant (Freon) which has resulted in several service calls. Staff recommended replacing the condensing unit as they believe the repairs are necessary. This item is not included in the 2022 operating budget and the proposed repair is $11,840.
