Unity in a coffee can
Whenever the Apostle Paul thought about the church he planted in Philippi, it made him smile. Much like the church family I shepherd here at Cornerstone, the Philippian Church was a loving, compassionate, doctrinally-sound church. It had a heart for the broken. It had a heart for the lost. It had a heart for the Gospel and for sharing Christ with the community around it. It was a solid, Christian Church. And yet, in spite of all that, Paul knew, that lurking in the shadows of that healthy, vibrant body of believers, was a malignant spirit so deadly, that if left unchecked, it had the potential, and it had the power, to wipe out the whole church. That’s why Paul spends almost the entire second chapter of Philippians warning them about just how dangerous and destructive this spirit can be.
