As of Sept. 27, just over five months after beginning the dredging project, the JF Brennan Company has reached 90% completion of the 657,329 cubic yard bid quantity of sediment to be removed from Lake Redwood.
Resources for those of Color: Access to culturally specific resources Many times, people believe that domestic abuse and/or sex trafficking/ exploitation does not occur in our small communities. This in fact does occur and many times those close to a victim do not always know this is occurring. Some people only think of abuse as physical, so they do not notice the other forms or signs of abuse. Domestic Abuse is about the abuser having power and control over the victim or situation. Examples of abuse can include: physical, emotional, financial, litigation, sexual, use of children, and technological, among many other forms. The goal of the abuser is to continue to maintain power and control over the victim or situation. When victims have access to the resources that agencies such as WRAP provides it allows them to safely leave the situation they are in as well as helps them gain control back over their lives and the decisions they make.
On Sept. 12, Sister M. Joanna Buckley was elected as general superior of the Secular Institute of the Schoenstatt Sisters of Mary by their General Chapter being conducted in Schoenstatt, Germany. Sister Joanna is the daughter of deceased John and Caroline Buckley and the sister of Jim (Margie), Paul (Mary) and John (Brenda) Buckley. She was born in Redwood Falls and graduated from Redwood Valley High School. She attended the College of St. Benedict for one year until she joined the community of the Schoenstatt Sisters of Mary in 1989.

Daryl D. Hilbert, 80, passed away unexpectedly on Friday, September 23, 2022, at Friendship Village in Chesterfield, Mo. A Funeral Service was held at 1 p.m. on Tuesday, October 4, 2022, at First Presbyterian Church in Redwood Falls. Visitation was held from 12 until 1 p.m. on Tuesday, October 4, 2022, at First Presbyterian Church in Redwood Falls. Burial followed in Redwood Falls City Cemetery. Arrangements were with Nelson-Hillestad Funeral and Cremation Service of Redwood Falls. Condolences may be sent via www.nelson-hillestad.com. Daryl Dean Hilbert was born May 27, 1942, in Redwood Falls Hospital, the son of Harold and Delorias (Knigge) Hilbert of rural Redwood Falls. He was baptized, attended Sunday School, and was confirmed in First Presbyterian Church of Redwood Falls. Daryl graduated from Redwood Falls High School in 1960. He was very active in FFA and 4-H during his high school years. He raised dairy cows, went to Dairy Shows, won Championship and Showmanship Awards in the County and State Fairs both in 4-H and FFA. He was also interested in helping his dad with his dairy herd and diversified farming. After graduation from high school he attended the University of Minnesota. He then entered the Navy. He spent April 1964 - October 1967 on the USS DARTER as a TM3Torpedomans Mate- 3rd Class then the USS TRUMPET FISH October through December of 1967. There he met his first wife, Jean Ann (Snead) Hilbert. They had two children, Kimberly Kay and Bret Snead Hilbert. They all resided in St. Louis, Mo. Daryl began his career with State Farm Insurance in St. Louis in 1969. He had numerous, prominent awards throughout his career. He retired from State Farm due to Parkinson’s Disease in 2006. He loved restoring his dad’s 1940 Ford pickup. They, he and the truck, won 1st place in division in the Forest Park/Easter car show. He was a great pool player. He loved to have fun! He was on a Bocce Ball League. Was pretty good at golf some say ... He was a very welcoming,
passed away at his home on Saturday, September 17, 2022. Weldon James Zaske Jr. was born in Danube on May 18, 1947, to Weldon Sr. and Lillian Zaske. He was the 7th of 9 children. In 1955 the family moved to Redwood Falls where he attended middle and high school graduating in 1965. Shortly after he went into the U.S. Army specializing in explosives and ordinance disposal. After completing his time in the service he attended the University of Minnesota and graduated in 1973 with a Bachelor of Arts Degree. He then went on an extended trip to Europe enjoying some free time and exploring the sites and cultures of many countries. When he returned to the USA, he moved to Santa Cruz, Calif. While working at a convalescent home he went to school full time taking nursing classes with the goal of becoming an RN. He applied at Dominican Hospital in Santa Cruz with little experience but was hired and worked in surgery for 30 years. During that time he continued to take classes that aided his progression from surgical nursing to an operating room Registered Nurse. His retirement allowed time to work on his painting, writing a book and his many other hobbies. His best buddy Willie loved having his master home all day. He is survived by his wife of 40 years Karen Duclow Zaske, ex-wife Yvonne Ferguson Zaske, siblings Margaret Dodge, Shirley Sweeney (Patrick), Gerald Zaske, Lois Cairns, Debra Munsell (Ray) and many nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his parents Weldon Sr. and Lillian Zaske, two infant brothers Richard and Larry, sister and brother-in-law Patricia and Robert deBlauw, sister-in-law Faye Larsen Zaske and brothers-in-law James Cairns and Homer B. Dodge. A Celebration of Life will be held in Minnesota for family only. Happy Trails dear brother!
Redwood Area School District #2897 School Board Members met Monday, Sept. 26 and unanimously approved the updated policies. Karla Beck, Director of Teaching and Learning, updated the school board on Reede Gray's improvement process due to its Target I level identification by the Minnesota Department of Education (MDE). High School Principal, Rick Jorgenson, updated the school board on the changes to the high school standards based grading.
