The Redwood Valley tennis team topped Albert Lea in a non-conference triangular meet held Saturday, April 30. In a meet that featured five doubles matches, the Cards got a 6-1, 6-1 win by Andrew Muetzel and Drew Lundeen.
The talented Redwood Valley girls golf team continued their strong play by winning a Big South Conference quadrangular held at the Luverne Country Club. The Cards fired a 183 team total to hold off second place Marshall by 12 shots (195).
The Wabasso girls softball team split a doubleheader with Tomahawk Conference rival Springfield in recent action. The Rabbit girls fell 11-1 in five innings and held off the Tigers 7-6.
The River Valley boys and girls track teams continued to dominate as the girls finished first and the boys second at the New Ulm Invitational held Thursday, April 28 in New Ulm. The Wilcat girls racked up 147.5 team points to easily outdistance second place New Ulm (125.5) in the six team event.
To the Editor: I am saddened to write this letter to explain and express my concern of how our Public Education System treats and cares for the teaching of our state’s most vulnerable children. Granted it’s not every district, but I can tell you with great certainty and knowledge of how districts are doing it, how we as taxpayers should not except it and how this is a call to action for our elected officials, community leaders and school boards, who actually have control over how their public schools are being run.
As Wabasso Public Schools winds down to the end of the school year, the busyness in the District picks up. Every year on a school's calendar, the months of April and May seem to be the most filled time of the year. Not only are our students entertained with extracurricular activities like athletics and organizations, but they are also busy with many other school functions.
The Wabasso FFA had three CDE teams and one individual compete at the State FFA Convention, held at the University of Minnesota campuses and State Fairgrounds, April 24 through 26. More than 4,700 FFA members, advisors and guests from throughout the state gathered for the convention. In addition to the competitions, FFA members attended convention sessions, where they heard key note speakers, including the outgoing State Officers.
The "Ladies Night Out" fundraiser was hosted by the Redwood Area Dollars for Scholars, Orrin S. Estebo Chapter on Thursday, April 28 at the Redwood Falls Golf Club.
At the Redwood Area School District's regular April 25 board meeting, the board of education took action to move forward with an August election date for the elementary school building project. The discussion over August 2022 versus April 2023 resulted in a 4-2 vote to proceed with August 2022.
Redwood Valley High School had their 2022 prom Saturday, April 30 with 65 couples in attendance. The evening began with couples driving up to a decorated walkway in front of the school, followed by the grand march.
