Chamber Ambassadors recognize local business

The Redwood Area Chamber Ambassadors recognized Kaardal Insurance Agency, Inc. with the Progress Award for the addition of their new Daktronics sign. Elmer Kaardal opened his State Farm agency in December of 1957. In 1977, Loran joined his father as a State Farm agent and in 1991 Elmer retired. Thor Kaardal replaced his father and joined Loran in remodeling the office into its current footprint in 1991. Thor retired in the fall of 2020. The Daktronics digital sign was added in 2021. The Kaardals have served the insurance needs of the community for 65 years. Rabbits fall in OT

Outscoring Wabasso 10-2 in overtime, the LQPV Eagles defeated the Rabbits 69- 59 Saturday, March 5 in Section 3A boys basketball quarterfinal action. The Rabbits (12-15) trailed 31-27 at the half and that deficit would fall to as many as 11 in the second half before rallying to tie the score on a layup from senior Isaac Kronback with two seconds remaining.

Wabasso Senior Dining Menu through March 18

In response to the COVID-19 pandemic, Wabasso Senior Dining is only offering home delivery of meals, until further notice. Home delivery is available to those residing in Wabasso, Wanda, Lucan, Seaforth, Vesta, Delhi, Lamberton, Redwood Falls, Clements, Morton, Fairfax, Franklin, Gibbon, and Winthrop. To order a meal, or for more information, call Diane at 507-829-2385. You are asked to call one day prior by noon to order a meal. The cost is $4 a meal for those ages 60 and over; $2 on Thursdays for Wabasso residents. In response to social distancing measures, there are no senior dining activities in Wabasso at this time.

Dog park planned for Knollwood Park

Redwood Falls City Council met Tuesday, March 1 and accepted Garnette Gardens’ proposal to purchase land. Garnette Gardens is in the process of refinancing with a HUD insured loan which requires the borrower to own the land that is occupied by the facility being refinanced. The City of Redwood Falls currently owns the land that Garnette Gardens is built on. The city originally purchased the land from the school for $60,000 and entered into a ground lease to grant Garnette Gardens access to the land. The proposal utilizes the “buyout” provision that states if Garnette Gardens is sold to a third party, the lease agreement terminates and the third party is required to purchase the land for a predetermined purchase price of $120,000.

Criminal case totals are up

The Redwood County Board of Commissioners met Tuesday, March 1 and approved the resolution to contract two aerial imageries by utilizing the geographical information system (GIS) beacon. Redwood County received Federal Coronavirus Local Fiscal Recovery Funds under the American Rescue Plan Act (ARP). The board of commissioners authorized to enter into a contract with Eagleview and allocate up to $146,972 of ARP.
